The snowpack in the Western U.S. is all but gone. It is supposed to be at it's annual peak this week.

Insane, unprecedented March heat wave in the western, central U.S. This hasn't gotten enough attention so we wanted to share some more info. Look at this @NWSWPC map of all of the cities that tied or broke all-time March temperature records late last week. This is just select weather stations. Using a broader set, CWG's Ian Livingston found more than 500 locations set March record highs. According to Maximiliano Herrera (@extremetemps), 14 states set March record highs and the U.S. set a national March temp record when highs hit 112 in Arizona and California Friday. What happened last week is just the first wave. Another round is on the way this week with hundreds of more records forecast. This is the warmest March on record in the United States. Even though we have missed the core of the heat, here in DC our temp is running 5 to 6 degrees above normal.

Tropical Storm #Narelle is weakening over #NorthernTerritory where additional Moderate flooding impacts are expected. The system could become a Major #Cyclone once again and deliver MAJOR IMPACTS to parts of Western #Australia.

There've been many great loops of the polar low near Alaska yesterday, but I just had to make my own. A compact, TC-like system, only with mostly snow instead of rain! I've heard of warm core polar lows behaving similarly to TCs, but to see one in radar range is something else.

Earlier today, the storm known variously as Samuel, Jolina or Quibilah made landfall along the Lybian coast near New Brega (البريقة الجديدة) as a 'medicane', a type of subtropical storm. 1 minute sustained winds were likely on the order of about 85 km/h (52 mph)

A depression with characteristics of a #Medicane, named #Jolina, has been evolving over south central Mediterranean between Italy and Libya since yesterday. The swirling storm is clearly visible on the satellite image this morning. Despite showing characteristics of a tropical storm, SSTs are only around 17-18C in the area. Likely being driven by upper low/cold pool aloft.
