Bizet’s prelude to the opera Carmen is meant to captivate with its energy, spark curiosity, and hint at the passionate and tragic story that gradually unfolds throughout the opera. And in this case, it's also meant to remind you that our Open Air concert is just 10 days away!

Gustav Mahler died exactly 115 years ago, but his music is still very much alive – and beloved by audiences all over. As it happens, the composer’s Ninth Symphony can now also be heard on our newly released Mahler box set... 🎶

"Everything composed after The Rite of Spring has inevitably been influenced by Stravinsky," says Maestro Bychkov. And who would disagree? It has been our great honour to perform this pivotal work during our European tour. And an even greater honour to bring it home this week.

We’re pleased to announce that Huw Humphreys will join us in September as our new Artistic Director and General Manager. "I can’t wait to immerse myself in the orchestra’s incredible sound world, in Prague’s culture and in Czech heritage," he says. We look forward to it! 💙

Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E minor is intimate, melancholic, and intimate in character. It gives voice to the pain and sorrow the composer was living with, yet still holds a gentle joy. On tour, we played it with Sol Gabetta almost every evening – and we’d happily keep going.

Elgar with Sol Gabetta, Carnival Overture, and The Rite of Spring are successfully behind us. A view of Hamburg’s HafenCity and a second concert is still ahead. We’re delighted with the first and looking forward to the second!

We're celebrating our 130th anniversary! Thank you to everyone who listens to us at the Rudolfinum, through recordings, or on tour. With deepest respect, we remember all those without whom the orchestra would not be what it is today: all the musicians and their audiences. 💙

Wynton Marsalis can boast nine Grammy Awards. And we can proudly boast that we're performing his violin concerto in its Czech premiere this week, alongside Cristian Măcelaru and Nicola Benedetti. 🎻

We're on tour! And we had a great time playing in Vienna's Konzerthaus yesterday. 🎶
