FROM ROM REDDY As I have repeatedly stated, in South Carolina we have weaponized government against the citizen. To those of us who, by God’s grace, have the means, we have a duty to take on this weaponization, along with the agency state’s far-left friends who disguise themselves as “nonprofits,” and the legacy media who have forsaken their job of holding elected officials accountable and instead run interference for the regime. That is exactly what I did with the rogue DES agency who came after me and tried to take my property under the guise of regulation, which the Constitution specifically prohibits. I was able to beat them down and prevail, which most citizens do not have the resources to do. It should not be that way. First, they tried to claim my land. My wife and I took them on in court - the agency state and their in-house lawyers, and the far-left Coastal Conservation League and their in-house lawyers. I fired my lawyers, who had already run up my bills well into six figures. We prevailed when the judge declined to give them jurisdiction on private land. Then they tried to fine me $300,000 for violating their made-up rules. The judge declined and threw out every last dollar of fines. Then they tried to use some obscure regulation that says they can tell private landowners what to do in the “public interest.” Once again, we beat them back. All this has resulted in millions of wasted taxpayer dollars going after a citizen in a show of vendetta because their authority was challenged. In the process, they tied us up in administrative proceedings for over two years, denying me the constitutional right to a speedy trial in a real court. Why? So they can bankrupt us and bleed us dry in administrative proceedings with their in-house teams of taxpayer-funded attorneys, while we citizens have to hire expensive outside counsel who are often afraid to take them on, but feel free to bill you while pretending they are on your side. In most instances, they weaponize government power against citizens until the citizen takes the knee. With me, they picked the wrong guy. This cannot be stopped on a case-by-case basis. That way, they win. The whole system needs to come down. The vast agency state that is unelected should not be allowed to use its power to go after citizens’ rights. They should be defending our rights. It does not matter whether it is DES, DSS, DNR, the South Carolina DMV, or Education. It does not matter whether it is family court or probate court. It is time to end this tyranny and return to what our Founders wanted: a government that defends our God-given rights to liberty, free speech, property, safety, and happiness. Not a government that uses its power to victimize citizens and tries to bankrupt us so it can force us to take the knee. Let it be said loud and clearly by every one of us: WE WILL KNEEL TO GOD, NOT GOVERNMENT.

I quote: "The system ( homeschooling) reflects a policy choice: Maximize parental rights even if it means the state doesn’t know whether homeschooled children are learning”. Really? The state has been doing such a great job with the public school system that they now want to screw up other learning avenues? Let me be clear. If homeschool parents get taxpayer money for homeschooling , then it is legitimate to say there must be some accountability for whether the money is being well spent. However, the vast majority of homeschool parents are choosing to educate their kids at home on their own dime, without any support from the state. Why? Because parents are concerned about a totally broken public school system that is consistently in the bottom 10 in the nation and a system where 68 percent of 4th graders cannot read at grade level. This is a disgrace to our children. Many parents have taken matters into their own hands with homeschooling. So, who the heck does the state think it is to "have to know whether homeschool children are learning." Parents can and will do that, thank you. Instead, the state needs to focus on fixing the broken public school that they broke. But wait, who is going to fix the system? The Governor? Heck no. No clue. Next. The Secretary of Education? Ellen Weaver is very dedicated to education but has little power since she is faced with a State Education Board she has little control over, the Education Oversight Board that is independent from her control and 81 school districts ( even though we have 46 counties) that have pre-emption rights meaning the education Secretary has little control over them. Maybe that is the reason why administrators now exceed teachers in this state. Ridiculous. Add to that a Secretary of Education that is elected (vs. appointed by the Governor like many states) and you have the distraction of running for statewide office every 4 years. This seems like a familiar theme- everyone in charge so no one is in charge and many generations of our children are being denied economic freedom which is what education provides. There are ways to fix this and fix this quickly, but those ways do not include trying to tell homeschool parents how to educate their children. Trust me , you may be able to learn from them instead of trying to teach them how to fail our children.
