@DA18th So 4.5 minus jail time. So straight to community corrections after DRDC. Nice, used to not be that way. They used to give a gang of time. Let's go back to that. 🤔

During Kiarra Jones' sentencing hearing, Judge Laqunya Baker noted the videos of her assaulting special needs students on a school bus were "gut-wrenching" to watch and stated prison time is appropriate. Jones was taken into custody to begin serving her sentence immediately.

***UPDATE 3/11 at 2:00 p.m.*** Investigators with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office have determined that the suspect in the death of a five-year-old boy is the victim’s 11-year-old brother. The case is being investigated as a homicide. The cause of death remains under investigation. The juvenile suspect is currently in custody at the Marvin W. Foote Youth Services Center in Centennial, Colorado. He is facing charges of first-degree murder. This is an open and active investigation with deputies still on scene. Because both the victim and the suspect are minors, the information we release will be limited. “Our hearts go out to the family of these two young boys and to everyone in our community who is grieving this loss,” said Sheriff Tyler Brown. “Cases involving the homicide of children are among the most difficult our deputies and investigators face. Our team is fully committed to a thorough investigation, and we will continue working tirelessly to determine exactly what happened. We know tragedies like this impact not only the family, but also classmates, teachers, and neighbors throughout the community. We appreciate the support and patience of the public as our investigators work to gather the facts and pursue justice in this case.”

Joined District Attorney Amy Padden @DA18th for the 2026 Student Academy — a full-day program offering students an in-depth look at the criminal justice system. We delivered opening remarks, and other law enforcement speakers shared real-world scenarios on cybercrime, domestic violence, juvenile matters, & traffic offenses. It was inspiring to see the students’ enthusiasm and their interest in careers dedicated to public safety and justice. #ArapahoeCounty

“This sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime and the lasting harm caused, including the fact that one of the puppies is still missing. Given the defendant’s prior history, #prison is appropriate to protect the community from this offender.” -Makena Granger, Deputy DA

“No one should be assaulted at work for trying to do the right thing. This sentence recognizes the harm caused to the store employees who bravely intervened, as well as the callous nature of stealing defenseless animals. Justice was served.” -Erica Saluta, Deputy DA (2 of 3)
