My second tournament doing the darts and loving it so far! Appreciate all the comments good and bad. I'll not be everyone's cup of tea, that's the nature of presenting. But I'll keep learning and give it my best shot.

@itsocheagain It was a real shame it ended. The model could have been really good. Just needed tweaking. That said ticket sales didn’t appear to be close to what was needed. Shame.

@dazi180turtle The rationale makes sense. It’s guaranteed money from the exhibition.
Also, any money added to his ranking from the Masters makes little difference overall to his prospects this year. The one year list and making sure he gets in the ET’s are much more important for him.

Barney choosing I assume Exhibitions over a Major is ridiculous in a way, but it’s also quite telling how much the format for the new Masters has been fucked up to shoehorn the Top ranked players into everything as far as possible yet again and again.

@JJIdsardi A quick look at the players that would benefit most from the decision and you can see why it’s been made.

For example: if Lukeman and Dolan come through the qualifier for European Tour 1, they will be seeded instead of Zonneveld and O'Connor.
Zonneveld and O'Connor could then draw Nijman and Springer first round: if they lose, they won't get their prize money on their rankings.

The PDC has managed to make the European Tour even more in favor of the big boys. Zonneveld/O'Connor will get automatic invites into events, but they will more than likely not be seeded in round one. Which means they have to beat a higher ranked player to get prize money....

@JJIdsardi When you have regional tours and OOM this just doesn’t make any sense at all.. We could end up seeing Lim miss out because a 65 average UK based Singaporean won a game on the CT. If though you are looking for a second Swiss player then yes fair enough

The Challenge Tour will be used as a qualifying route for the World Cup of Darts 2026.
If a country doesn't have two players on the World Rankings or Challenge Tour, a different route will be picked.

@FDI_Index The T32 get a lot of ranking protection. Particularly with the new European Tour rules. That means it’s harder to drop out and vice versa so there are players holding on to seeding longer than they would have done previously.

Just a thought: Could it perhaps be that so many seeded players are losing early because the rankings don't match at all with how the players actually stack up qualitatively against each other?

@dazi180turtle It’s a joke. If you go into the final qualifier and know you would be towards the top of the reserve list then you should be a non-trier as you are better off losing.

Losing your qualifier final is one of the best things someone can do in the PDC. Who would you rather play for 2.5k to save a card or get to Ally Pally? Aspinall or Rosandic?
Utter nonsense that needs to get fixed ASAP but it would just be a fraction of the issues with the ET.

@kieranwynn1 @MatadorDarts Yeah I get that. Problem is watching the long since retired guys averaging in 70s loses appeal quickly as well. I think your point is valid though about being able to see the players elsewhere. That’s why Barney wasn’t the draw they assumed he would be this weekend.

@DBazB @MatadorDarts But I can't see Ross and Neil and deta and trina as seniors(i see them at the wdf) robert and john are still competitive on the challenge tour and adc events to me senior has to mean retired for a while

Once again a boring and glorified exhibition with the same players we see all the time.
Seniors will be gone in a few years unless something drastic happens because they couldnt even get 60 people in a room today. Qualifiers is where the real draw was and they scrapped it

Isn’t working from a commercial perspective. It doesn’t appear to have much appeal for broadcasters and ticket sales have been relatively poor as evidenced with this event. I’m not sure it will exist in a couple of years time. Shame.

The point is pretty much proven again tonight. Out of 4 semi-finalists, 2 actively went to many tour events and made more of a name for themselves by performing.
Jason Francis said financially the tour wasnt working. If it wasnt then something was seriously wrong.
