The most underrated part of the EVC discord (in my opinion) is the +EV futures posted throughout the sports seasons.

If we’re to take the difference in money at face value, it’s easy to see why a deal for Larrañaga isn’t done yet.
I’m confident Olen or Murray at $5-6m would outperform Larrañaga at more than that, so why not press the donors for more?

I’ve thought about this for a bit, and I don’t think I’m completely sold here. Maybe it’s different at the P5 level, but hiring someone to satisfy a donor and get more money doesn’t make success a guarantee, even when it should (see Iona, MAAC)

@toweroftruth @UConnHuskies So frustrating. Putting in good money after bad to support football and max out at 7 wins if lucky. Could send that money to basketball and be a tournament team. Horrible strategic decisions.

For the coach, someone who could become a noteworthy “face of the program” seems optimal.
Earl was always nice in interviews, but not someone who could drive headlines through his personality.
Mandatory? No.
Nice-to-have? Absolutely.

In my opinion, one key aspect of the @BCMBB Coaching Job is getting non alum, local alums fired up about BC Hoops. We need “Joe in Needham” or “Linda in Andover” coming to Conte and feeling a part of it. You need to win and create “juice” in the local community. If I were @BCBlakeJames , I would highly consider this. #JustWin

That includes having a coach who understands marketing, and also investing in marketing strategies (simple fixes like sending emails before home games that are exciting and not simply 'Free Parking at Home Games')

@mike_gualtieri @BCMBB There is no one in basketball who would make that sort of Day 1 impact. Don't go chasing headlines or worry about "juice." Get a program builder who will win and fans will return slowly.

I have no doubt Merrimack's Joe Gallo is an excellent basketball coach, but people acting like he's a perfect fit for Boston College are saying the exact same things I heard about Cornell's Steve Donahue, Ohio's Jim Christian, and Charleston's Earl Grant before BC hired them.

If I was Boston College athletic Director Blake James, my first call to try and replace Earl Grant would be to gauge the interest of former Eagles' All-American Jared Dudley, currently an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets.
