Youth opportunity! We know many DC young people take up babysitting gigs—especially during the summer months—and we want them to have everything they need to succeed. Help spread the word: @dcfireems is hosting a free Babysitting and Child Safety Training for youth ages 12-17.

DPW and @_DCHealth are teaming up to tackle the rat problem! Check out the video to see how we're hitting the alleys, then follow these quick tips to keep the rodents away from your door. ♦ Seal the Bin: Keep those trash lids tight. If it doesn’t close, the rats are invited. ♦ Bag Everything: No loose bags on the ground—heavy-duty bags inside the cans only. ♦ Call 311: See a burrow or a mess? Report it immediately so the city can get to work. Let’s keep our blocks clean and rat-free! 🚮🚫🐀

Last night’s fire in the 9th Street tunnel was a powerful reminder of how quickly our city comes together in a crisis. DPW wants to thank @dcfireems and all emergency responders for their swift, coordinated response and continued dedication to keeping residents safe. Through the night, DPW crews stepped in to support recovery efforts—dispatching tow trucks and activating our Debris Recovery Team to clear fallen and dislodged materials, along with charred vehicle parts from the scene. This work didn’t stop when the flames were out. Our teams stayed on it overnight to help restore safety and order as quickly as possible. We appreciate the continued collaboration across agencies that keeps DC moving forward.
