The current word is that Hamer’s departure is not a formality, although his contract status makes United vulnerable. An agreement over an extension has not been ruled out by the player’s camp, we are told, if the terms are deemed acceptable. @dannyhall04#twitterblades#sufc

🎙️ Chris Wilder on Gus Hamer
"He shouldn't have played today, he rolled his ankle on Thursday and didn't train yesterday. He wanted to play today. His attitude has been spot on. Championship Player of the Year last season. I said to him when he was coming off 'if this your last game I really appreciate your efforts over the last 18 months for myself and the football club. I'd love to work with you again but I understand'. If he stays then great, if he doesn't then he has the recognition he deserves for his efforts. Supporters don't get it wrong and their reaction to him at the end tells the story."

🎙️ Chris Wilder on the win
"That one was for the supporters 100%. I said to the players before that they've had incredible backing home and away. I get the reactionaries which go for you and that's part and parcel of playing for our football club and everyone has to deal with that. We had to weather a good start because they came absolutely roaring out the traps, the goal came off Callum and the boy's tapped it in at the back stick, but they came at us as I would've expected them to. We got through that period, got a foothold in the game, and I think second half we were really good, defended really well, broke the game up and created good chances. That one was for the supporters, to sell out here today. I said to the players 'they've followed you up and down the country, if any group of supporters deserve [a win] they do'."
