Stranded in Lal Pahar: Three farmers—Ricky Kri (38), Balamso Kri (27), and Somboi Kri—had set out for their cardamom fields nestled deep in Lal Pahar, near Bhekuliang. What began as a routine visit soon turned into a tense ordeal as they found themselves stranded, cut off by the swollen waters of the Paya River after unexpected rainfall. As the hours passed with no way to return, concern grew. Fortunately, Lohit Krisikro got wind of the situation and quickly reached out to the local MLA Dr. Mohesh Chai for help. Without hesitation, the HMLA acted. He contacted the KN Damo Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Asmi Mega I/c District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO), who swiftly informed the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Recognizing the urgency, coordination efforts were heightened. The Superintendent of Police (SP) Thutan Jamba, Lohit, connected the team with Officer-in-Charge of Sunpura. Together, they organized a rescue team, blending official resources with the power of the local community. It was the villagers who played a surprising yet heroic role—they brought along two of their elephants, the only reliable way to cross the raging river. With the help of these majestic animals and the brave rescuers, the three farmers were brought back safely.
