Delaware State Police are currently on-scene of a death investigation within The Pines at Long Neck community in Millsboro. The scene remains active, and there is no threat to public safety. Please avoid the area as parts of White Pine Drive are closed. Residents should expect an increased police presence in the area. Updates will be provided when they become available.

Today, we remember Trooper Kevin J. Mallon, 24, who was killed on March 20, 1990 in a fatal accident on Delaware Route 16, west of Milton. Flags at State Police barracks were flown at half-staff in honor of the trooper who died when his patrol vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree. Trooper Mallon was enroute to an alarm at a photography studio at the time of his death. Kevin Mallon was born on April 25, 1965 in Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Bishop Shanahan High School and Kutztown University, receiving a B.S. in Criminal Justice (1987). Trooper Mallon was employed at the Chester County Juvenile Detention Center prior to his appointment to the Delaware State Police in July, 1989. Kevin enjoyed all sports, especially the Philadelphia Eagles. He is deeply missed by his mother, Betty, stepfather, Richard, and his brother and sister, Ed and Kathleen. A ranking fellow officer remarked, “Kevin, in the short period of time he was with the troop, had developed a lot of friends and was seen as a bright and energetic person with an excellent future ahead of him… (His death) is a tragedy that will be with us for a long time…” Kevin Mallon was laid to rest, on a snowy afternoon, (March 24, 1990), in the cemetery at St. Thomas The Apostle, Glen Mills, Pennsylvania. #DiamondStateProtectors #DSP #UltimateSacrifice #Fallen #HonorOurFallen #Memorial #NeverForgotten

🚍School Bus Safety Traffic Initiative🚍 Beginning last week, and for the rest of the school year, DSP Troop 7 is partnering with the Cape Henlopen School District to conduct a school bus safety initiative focused on motorists passing stopped school buses. The initiative is taking place during the morning and afternoon commutes. So far, troopers have observed several incidents of vehicles illegally passing stopped school buses, and the motorists involved were ticketed. Motorists are reminded that when a school bus stops and its red lights are flashing, traffic in both directions must stop to ensure students can safely get on and off the bus. Troopers will continue to monitor roadways, and drivers are encouraged to slow down, pay attention, and always prioritize the safety of the students. Under Delaware law, passing a stopped school bus carries the following penalties: · Mandatory court appearance · Mandatory DMV license suspension · 6 points on your license · Base fine $115 and/or 30 days imprisonment
