I am looking forward to voting for @jamestalarico in November. As a lifelong Republican it is a simple choice. Character matters not party. Ken Paxton and John Cornyn do not deserve the privilege to represent the Great State of Texas in the United States Senate.

Naomi Osaka on why she chose to host a party for the black tennis players: “You know I'm seeing a little bit of- ‘Why can't you love everyone for all skin tones?’ and ‘what if someone had an all white party?! First of all I do love everyone for who they are no matter their race + ethnicity, (I'm literally half Japanese lol). I can only speak from my experiences in my own life though, growing up as a tennis player I didn't see many people that looked like ME and I feel like it's important to celebrate them. Secondly I feel like it's important to note that there have been all white dinners/parties. I don't know how else to tell you this, I literally seen them all the time and never had an issue with it at all. To the people who ask this question I want to ask you this question too, ‘What is it about POC getting together that unsettles you so much?’ I want to end this by saying I grew up watching my dad get discriminated against, having the cops called on him multiple times at the tennis court. There are multiple things I will apologize for in my life but celebrating being black and appreciating who we are will never be something I would consider saying sorry for. Thanks. Actually I lied, I am sorry. I'm sorry for the people who cannot comprehend in their brains that this is not about exclusion, this is a celebration about how far we have come 🖤” (via Naomi on Threads)

Over a million acres of pristine wilderness lakes in Minnesota. The most visited canoe country in America. Generations of families have paddled it, fished it, camped it. The Senate just sold it out outright. They called it "America First." Then handed it to a Chilean billionaire — so his company can ship the copper to China. The Senate voted 50-49 to gut 20 years of Boundary Waters mining protections. Here's the deal they made. A Chilean billionaire's company digs the mine. America can't smelt the copper — we don't have the capacity. So the ore ships to China. China processes it. Sells it on the world market. Chile keeps the profits. Minnesotans don't even get the jobs. Minnesota keeps the pollution. And Americans get to buy it back from China at full market price. This same company has a documented history at their Chilean mines: pipeline spills, regulatory fines, and locals fighting back for years. They paid a former Trump Interior Secretary $380K. The protection died by one vote. Here's exactly how it happened — and who made it happen. Who do YOU think this mine actually serves? #DemsUnited

@shipwreckedcrew Sure, they were convicted. By a jury akin to the Soviet Olympic judges circa 1984 who awarded scores of 7.5 to American gymnasts while all other judges awarded 10s.

@GovWesMoore You are an expert at doling out welfare. Rebuilding a cookie cutter bridge, you are not very good at.

When I ran for governor, I said we’d be an administration that would launch the most aggressive, all-out assault on child poverty this state has ever seen – and I meant it. At a moment when Washington is failing to address rising costs, ripping away health care, and telling mothers and their children that they’re on their own – Maryland is pushing forward for working families. Through this partnership with the Bridge Project, 150 expectant mothers will receive direct cash assistance to use for groceries, rent, a car seat – for whatever their newborn needs. In addition to cash support, the Bridge Project will help them access benefits and financial stability resources like WIC, SNAP, virtual counseling, and even doula services. And it’s fully funded by our philanthropic partners.

@GovWesMoore And we are expecting zero vehicles to cross the Key Bridge, because some incompetent governor can’t rebuild a cookie cutter bridge in less than 10 years.

This Memorial Day weekend, we’re expecting over 335,000 vehicles to cross the Bay Bridge. Everyone's trying to get home to someone – so plan ahead, pay attention to lane signals, and never drive distracted or impaired. Be kind, be focused, and be safe.

@IanMWolfe @ConfederateMyth @BaltimoreBanner I disagree, and so would every historian up until the 1960s. The fed gov had no constitutional authority to outlaw slavery. The South had lost its political dominance in DC it held for 75 years. They wanted independence.

@DFish4040 @ConfederateMyth @BaltimoreBanner The confusion here is that anyone is arguing the north undertook the war to end slavery. They did not. But the south definitely did secede to *preserve* slavery.

@jemillerbalt The IRS and NY’s Comptroller target billionaires for extra scrutiny of their tax returns. Cherry picking a couple years where Trump paid little or no tax is absurd. Most years he paid massive amounts in taxes.

Maryland students and educators have worked hard, and it's paying off — our schools are LEADING the national comeback in public education. But the job’s not done. Maryland plays to win. We're going to keep investing into our schools, close the teacher shortage, and deliver on our promise to have the best public schools in America. educationscorecard.org/states/marylan…

@DFish4040 @IanMWolfe @BaltimoreBanner Maryland, Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio were the top 5 free black populations. Virginia had more slaves than any other State. Maryland stayed in the union, and the other 3 were northern states.

@ConfederateMyth @IanMWolfe @BaltimoreBanner At the time the Civil War broke out, the black population in the North was a whopping 2%! That’s bc N whites enforced numerous laws to keep them out. And this despite fact that N had slavery for 150 years.

@DFish4040 @IanMWolfe @BaltimoreBanner Oregon completely banned black people from living there. Illinois made it so no new black people could move there, Indiana and Ohio made it near impossible. That's all. All 3 still had more free black people than most of the south.

@ConfederateMyth @IanMWolfe @BaltimoreBanner Let me repeat: Virtually all N states BANNED ALL blacks, free & slave, from entering their states. This revisionist history that N states were all about helping blacks is BS. When they fought the "expansion of slavery," they were really arguing: "the blacks need to stay down S."

@DFish4040 @IanMWolfe @BaltimoreBanner So they still had free black people. Illinois had more free black people than all but 4 csa states. The Corwin Amendment would have banned an amendment allowing congress to interfere with slavery where it existed, nothing else.

@IanMWolfe @BaltimoreBanner Nobody disputes that slavery played a significant role. It basically split the country into two. But the N did not fight the war to end slavery, and the S didn't declare independence to keep slavery. The S knew that their 70+ years of political dominance in DC was ending.

@DFish4040 @BaltimoreBanner The political power at issue in those expansion debates was the balance of power between the slave and non-slave states. It’s so funny how much ink has been spilled trying to obscure this after the war, when the people at the time were very clear eyed about it.

@BaltimoreBanner @LeslieStreeter Abject moron. Historical illiterate dope. To distill the Civil War down to nothing but slavery is absolutely comical. This is the 6th grade New England version of the Civil War.
