The Danish version of USAID, called Danida, turns out to be just as full of retarded programs, like the 24m DKK spent on a Gender Equality Accelerator in Bosnia or 12.5m for music festivals in Mali. Danida's total budget is 23 billion DKK/year. Ripe for the chainsaw.

I'd been struggling with this one icon-alignment issue in the new Omarchy Quattro menu bar. GPT 5.5 kept going in circles. Opus 4.8 was no better. Even gave Gemini a shot and it too went for bust. But GPT 5.6 Sol? 4m45s and it was done. Love how fast models are leveling up!

@rchase You can't share a GPU between all of them, and the Proxmox VM viewer is way worse too. But I also use that! Great for snapshots and rollbacks in testing.

This is a common European crutch and cope. It's all just vibes to many of them. It "feels" like America is in decline because I happen not to like their current administration. Meanwhile, US just grows bigger, stronger, richer. 26Q1 US: +2.6% y/y. EU: +0.7%.

I'll be the first to champion the many things Europe does well and better. Be it food, city design, aesthetics, taste, whatever. But civilizational decline is intrinsically comparative. EU is falling behind the other great powers. That makes it weak, dependent, impoverished.

I was staying at an RV park in New York (state) a couple years ago and a German tourist was camped next to me in a motorhome he rented. Nice guy, but his fridge compressor was overheating. I wanted to help. There was a heat wave, and the fridge was having to work double duty. I noticed his perfectly functional A/C unit was off. I suggested he reduce the load on his refrigerator by running the A/C, but his face went stern and dour when I suggested it. "We don't use A/C" he cut me off, with a tone that was somehow simultaneously both defiant and helpless. He was sweaty and miserable. I felt bad for the guy. He couldn't even bring himself to cool him and and his family off. What would cause someone to deny themselves very significant physical relief? Would I form a view about a whole continent based on this one anecdote? Obviously not, but this whole saga this summer definitely strikes me as plausible.

@jmeller @fxn @grok Lee Kwan Yew credits air conditioning as one the single most important inventions for modern Singapore. Not only is heat deadly in Europe (hence the needless tens of thousands of excess deaths), it's also murder on productivity/learning/sleep.

@jmeller @fxn @grok I've dealt with sweltering hotel rooms across Europe w/o AC. Usually in Italy and France. But Denmark on a hot day is just as unbearable (even if there are fewer such hot days). Europeans bleat about DANGEROUS HEAT WAVE for temperatures anyone in Socal would just call Tuesday.

The key for actually having an impact on the climate even though we're only a region producing 6% of the emissions is to function as a model that the rest of the world wants to follow. For that it is imperative that we have economic success whilst achieving near net zero. This means dogma out of the window. Net 5% is good enough. Way less focus on energy austerity but instead focus on clean energy abundance. Ridiculous amounts are being spent on overinsulating houses and significant inefficiencies build up by refusing to cool our homes and office spaces. Who cares if the average person uses 10 or 15 MWh per year instead of 5 if 95% of said electricity will come from clean sources anyway. So indeed. Build.

@Forgework_ I follow along, and I love that progress is being made, but nobody is getting Opus/Fable/5.6 fidelity locally yet. They'll also not be running K3 on anything short of DC-grade hardware. But I'm optimistic that we'll get there sooner rather than later!

@dhh I dont know how much you check on local stuff. But we are really getting some speed ups on the halo strx chip. Some models prompt processing is instant. We get a lot out of local qwen3.6.

I just hoped back on Kimi K2.7 for some work yesterday. Hadn't been using it since GPT 5.6 and Fable. But great reminder of just how good these open-weight models have gotten. For what I was doing, Kimi was faster and just as good. Excited for K3!
