The New Caney Eagles took on The Woodlands Highlanders tonight at The Nest. The game was tightly contested throughout but the Eagles were able to make some big plays down the stretch to come away with a 53-50 win tonight. ‘24 Guard, Dravon Wilson rejoined the Eagles for his first action of the season after missing the first part of the season due to football related injuries. In his first game back, he put up 20 points for the Eagles. ‘26 Guard, Koltan Lopez had 10 points of his own and hit some big free throws down the stretch of the game. ‘24 Guard, Dijon Lewis contributed 9 points tonight but made his mark on the defensive end with multiple steals and deflections throughout the game. We spoke with Eagles Head Coach Calvin King postgame about his teams performance and their big district win tonight. “Such a big win for the program… we had numerous guys rise up in crucial parts of the game to help pull out the victory tonight,” King said. “We have a large make up of dual sport athletes coming from football that are really giving us dynamic playmaking abilities, and we are just starting to scratch the surface of what we can do this season. I see a lot of potential in the group if we can continue to get better over the course of this season. We still have a lot of work to do but tonight was a great step forward.” The Eagles move to 4-6 on the season and 1-1 in district play. The Eagles will be back on the court Thursday as they face the Porter Spartans in the Montgomery Tournament. @newcaneyhoops
