Three takeaways from tonight's 5-4 Montreal Canadiens overtime win over the Seattle Kraken.
1- Ivan Demidov is worth the price of admission. You probably new that already but the kid is a stud. We saw it late last season, in the preseason and again tonight but his vision and ability to scan the ice and hit the open at the exact right time is exemplary. Demidov will only continue to improve and when he does, Martin St Louis will give him more responsibility. It'll be no different than how we saw MSL handle Hutson a season ago...
2- Cole Caufield can still rip pucks. Actually, is it possible that his release got even better during the offseason? The quickness of the release coupled by the velocity and placement of the shot can be matched by only a handful of players around the league. Is this the year he reaches the 40-goal plateau?
3- The Canadiens kick off the home portion of their schedule with a home run of a pre game ceremony. It's becoming a little cliche to say that nobody does it like the Montreal Canadiens but it continues to ring true. From the spotlight on the crease with the goalie helmet placed expectedly on the top of the net to the beautiful reading narrated by Bob Gainey, it was perfect. The player intros were done in a unique way, as well. Nice touch to have the leaders of the team introduce the important members of the staff that often go unnoticed. Loved to see a little bit of the player's personalities by allowing them to choose their own intro song. Every hockey fan should get to experience a home opener at the Bell Centre at some point.

Not that other forwards who will be on the board at 5-7 couldn’t fill the role, but a lottery win would be so huge for #Habs rebuild.
Caufield, Suzuki, Slafkovsky, Newhook, Dach, Celebrini. Damn. Good to go.
