The Hillcrest High School Library was recently featured on NBC DFW after book checkouts tripled following the implementation of a cellphone ban. Congratulations to Library Media Specialist Nina Canales at Hillcrest High School for helping create a library space where students are reconnecting with reading. Moments like this remind us that when distractions are removed, books naturally return to the center of student curiosity, learning, and discovery. Our Dallas ISD libraries love bringing stories to life through meaningful experiences like author visits! Ben Milam Elementary students had the opportunity to meet author and illustrator Rachel Más Davidson, connect with her work, and experience the joy of reading in a memorable way. Author visits help students see the people behind the books, build excitement around reading, and remind them that their own stories matter too. Thank you for hosting and sharing, @BMilam_Library. @DISDLibDirector @DrElenaSHill @NicoleWBixby @TransformDISD @Region6_DISD @dallasschools #DallasISDLibraries

Behind every strong Dallas ISD library is a team making sure campuses have what they need to serve students well. Library Services helps keep the work moving, from resources and systems to the details that make access possible across our district. Every box of books, every update, every support request matters because it all connects back to students. Our Dallas ISD libraries help students learn what it means to be upstanders — using their voice, showing courage, and making thoughtful choices that support others. Through meaningful partnerships and engaging learning experiences, our libraries connect students to stories, history, and real-world lessons that inspire reflection and growth. 2nd Grade had a fabulous time learning about Upstanders with shadow puppets from the Dallas Holocaust Museum, connecting them to their own experiences and learning how to be upstanders themselves. #margaretbhenderson @dallasisd @DISD_Libraries @DISDLibDirector

Bringing library visits to life, one layer at a time. Library Services used Canva Magic Layers to turn a photo — shown in the bottom left of the poster — into a playful storybook scene. This is a great example of how creativity, technology, and imagination can help bring learning to life in classrooms and libraries, while giving students the chance to see themselves in stories and imagine even more possibilities.
