@WhatNowDoc If I said - I want you to create a plane. I’ll give you a basic chassis with engine. You build the shell, add the wheels, fuel system etc, good luck - they probably wouldn’t give you clearance at JFK. In 1969, they’d have given you an hand. ‘Trying things’ got things done.

I’m sorry, I used to think the “conspiracy theorists” were just nutters. This week I’ve decided we were conned. Hear me out. That 1969 spacecraft I watched on my black and white TV had less computing power than your wristwatch, less than some thermostatic controllers I have on my walls. This week NASA sent a $93billion spacecraft to *orbit* the moon, just orbit, in preparation for an actual moon landing in a few years time. Why on earth would it take us 57 years, and a $93b test flight, with the compute power and comms facilities we have today, if we’d already done it successfully, once before, with so little, 57 years ago. Nah, I’m now with the conspiracy theorists.

Who among us watched man’s first walk on the moon? Sunday, July 20, 1969.

@jackisgeeky @PeterHarry567 Would you sooner have 30 years of 1k a month on a property you still owned at the end, or a 150k one off ‘lump sump’ and hand over the property?

One thing puzzles me. A young couple cannot get a mortgage for 900 quid, yet they pay 1200 quid rent? What are the banks doing?

@justaphag6 We had fuck all growing up, it’s given me a touch of an inferiority complex. I’m juxtaposed between trying to be with my two boys as much as I can whilst working ridiculous hours to try and provide for them. I’m 36 and want their lives to be amazing, can’t imagine how I wouldn’t.

Such a bizarre world we live in, where the older generations actively want you to suffer, just because they did when they were younger. no desire for growth and change.

@JohnBecher7 @lukerobertblack Most of the landlords on our books are boomers, John. 3-4 houses. If you use housing as a method to enrich yourselves the people who can’t afford housing probably won’t think too kindly of you? Then mix in the condescension, not trying to win any popularity contests are they.

@venusdazed Exactly, hence the African American experience being so pleasant. Sure there’s ’the talk’, the stand your ground, ropes in trees reminding them of their past but they probably don’t get called names at sportsball! Well, they do, as per the reports from NFL players. But yeah.

have noticed europeans will rightfully call out american politics but still have the social perception and treatment of POC and foreigners from 1955 like in public spaces in the US even certain white people in the crowd would fight you over talking like this

@OtitoNosike Genuinely, I think he got men onto something better than the Andrew Tate offering. He taught men to be monsters, controlled aggression monsters. Then showed his own fragility. I don’t care at all about that, but some will have seen that and discounted his other comments maybe.

I have never understood, and still do not understand, why people loathe Jordan Peterson. For me, he is the most compelling philosopher of the 21st century. His ideas have reshaped how the modern man, particularly in the West, sees himself. And this is not even limited to the West. Any sensible young man can recognize the value in his thinking; lessons that, if practiced as he presents them, have the power to turn one’s life around.

@LozNorthon @kokeshimum @AMANDAMALES10 @accountingetc Only difference today is 🛜/📱. It’s needed for work. I do wonder if today’s luxuries were available back then, with the monthly payments, whether there would have been this level of abstinence often mentioned. You can’t have what doesn’t exist. Pubs + cigs sold well.

@DJBSBC @kokeshimum @AMANDAMALES10 @accountingetc Not unsympathetic. But some some young people today seem to think life was easy and we were handed everything on a plate. What is considered essential these days is massively different. Essential in my day was a roof over our heads, bills and food. Everything else was a bonus.

@LozNorthon @kokeshimum @AMANDAMALES10 @accountingetc Today’s rent is nearly half the minimum wage in Salford. How can people save for a deposit when left with £100 a month if they’re lucky? Literally everything has gone up aside from wages since you bought your place Loz. Inflation adjusted for ‘avg’ pay due to no min wage then.

@DJBSBC @kokeshimum @AMANDAMALES10 @accountingetc I was renting for a while, so paying rent etc., and somewhat naive at that age. But hindsight's a wonderful thing. "Wasting money" is relative. What young people consider 'essential' these days was unheard of then.

@CiaranMDuffy @stuey_beef You say you can’t compare, but they both killed people illegally. Also the IRA weren’t just a rag tag organisation, they were an army that weren’t recognised as official. There’s a lot of recognised, buried trauma involved for all and not sure how it affects current ‘peace’.

@DJBSBC @stuey_beef … “a terrorist organisation” and cannot be held to the same level of responsibility or accountability as the Great British Army. Can’t compare apples and oranges. The British Army owed a duty of care to their citizens

A British soldier served in Northern Ireland. Risked his life. Followed orders. Came home. He is now in his 70s. Keir Starmer’s Government has decided he deserves to spend his final years in court. The IRA got the Good Friday Agreement. The veterans got Keir Starmer. Remember that next time he talks about “values.”

@LindaPears87262 I grew up with the church interspersed with my school and general life. Not all encompassing but always present. I hold that fondly, don’t feel the need to be pious and attend every single week but it’s not gone away necessarily because it’s not as displayed.

Please don't misunderstand this tweet. I respect a person's religious beliefs & right to celebrate them but; when did we become obsessive about Christianity in the UK. I'm 69 & the only time we went to church was a wedding, christening or funeral.
