@Ziggys_Duck I couldn’t believe that nobody in the room wanted Marlo dead after he said this. Slim Charles is in my Top 5 The Wire characters because he was the ONLY one that even thought to avenge Prop Joe

On this date in 1983, The groundbreaking short film for Michael Jackson "Beat It" had its world premiere on MTV, Heavy rotation propelled the song to #1 marking a pivotal moment in breaking down racial barriers on music television. "Beat It" was the second video from Thriller to receive major rotation on MTV, following "Billie Jean," and it eventually won Record of the Year at the 1984 Grammy Awards. MJ spent approximately $150,000 of his own money to fund the video after the record label initially declined to finance the project, Directed by Bob Giraldi and filmed on Los Angeles' Skid Row. MJ wore a red leather J. Parks brand jacket adorned with multiple zippers, which became one of his most recognizable fashion statements. To ensure realism, approximately 80 actual gang members from the Bloods and Crips were recruited to appear as extras alongside professional dancers. It became a landmark in music history for its cinematic approach to street gang rivalries and its iconic group choreography.

28 years ago today, Gang Starr releases their 5th LP, Moment of Truth, on Noo Trybe/Virgin. the group's most commercially successful album, it  debuted at #1 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. It went on to sell over 500,000 copies and was certified Gold by the RIAA on May 7th, 1998. few albums released during this era featured the same commitment to excellence that came so naturally to Gang Starr. they strived to create something greater, and ended up creating a monument to hip-hop. “y’all muthafuckas really don’t know what this hip-hop is all about. So while you keep on faking the funk, we gonna keep on walking through the darkness, carrying our torches. underground will live forever, baby. we just like roaches: never dying, always living.”
