I’m Tim is a revealing new Avicii doc on Netflix, made with love and care. Much of it is Tim’s own voice, featuring behind-the-scenes visuals and commentary from friends and collaborators. Refreshing honesty around Tim’s depression, his substance abuse, manager Ash’s visionary/unconventional strategies (such as his confidence following the negative reception to Tim’s awkward live bluegrass set at Ultra Miami).
The insane energy surrounding the top artist of EDM’s peak era is captured wonderfully, as is the confusion/sadness around his sudden death.
Jesse Waits, former partner at XS Nightclub in Vegas and close friend of Tim’s, touches the heart with insights on the artist’s brilliance and complexity.
The film leaves a bittersweet taste, reinforcing Avicii’s status as an ingenious producer with an uncanny skill for melody, gone far too soon.
