Dear @elonmusk
Having read about your most insensitive, ill advised and regrettable comments about South Africa, I felt compelled to respond and expose the bigotry that motivates your comments.
I am Black South Africa, who just like you, was born during apartheid and suffered immensely because of the colour of my skin. I, and my many of my brothers and sisters, didn’t have the white privilege you had but went to school under trees and forced to study inferior education taught in Afrikaans which was the language of our oppressors. Our grandparents and parents were treated like modern day slaves, maimed and killed in the name of law and order, when you have a moment please Google Sharpeville Massacre, Langa Massacre and educate yourself about Apartheid atrocities in South Africa, just because you were born in South Africa doesn’t make you an expert on South African history, I am not an expert either but survived some of apartheid regime’s dirty trucks.
On June 16, 1976 Black South African youth took it to the streets, especially in Soweto, to fight for their rights for a better education system and not to be taught in the language of their oppressor, again you can Google June 16, 1976 you can see that men armed to the teeth, with guns made for war, were shooting young children only armed with stones, and again it didn’t matter to some of your kind because it was Black children that were killed. But that didn’t stop some white people to stand up and speak out against apartheid, while you and yours were silent, there was Helen Suzman, Ruth First, who was later killed with a parcel bomb while in exile in Mozambique, Trevor Huddleston, to mention just a few, those weren’t domkop white people but they saw our pain, our blood and tears, and understood our struggle for freedom, justice and equality. Again when you have a moment Google freedom, justice and equality, and while you are at it also Google freedom of expression. Maybe you don’t know, there were also white people who joined uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) and other liberation movements, Marion Monica Sparg is one of the few white women who joined MK and it wasn’t a terrorist organisation but they were fighting along side Black people for the liberation of South Africa.
During apartheid years, you were silent, even ran away, others went to exile but you ran away like a coward but today you want to lecture us, especially Black South Africans, about our history.
As the age of 13, I joined the struggle against apartheid and at the age of 18, I was arrested, tortured and brutalised, and it was through singing songs talk about our pain and anger that kept us strong and gave us hope. If you do listen to music, which I hope you do, there is an American rapper by the name Eminem, he always rap about killing people but in reality he has never killed anyone, it is only a wise person who can make a clear distinction between reality and entertainment.
Until the day you fully acknowledge that apartheid was a crime against humanity and that you are the product of apartheid, and that you benefited from white privilege, keep your opinions about South Africa to yourself and stop behaving like you are a political activist because you never threw a single stone during apartheid or denounced it.
Having money doesn’t make one a wise or intelligent person but someone lucky and fortunate in life.
Regards,
Mzilikazi wa Afrika
P.s I am not a member of any political party but I do have friends and relatives in most political parties.
