Rangers fan/journalist Scott McDermott with what he thinks is a very funny story about reporting/non reporting of Motherwell penalty incident v Rangers “He [M’well manager] is taking that decision to his grave, I’ve not even put it in my match report”

@scotlandscoeff1 Apps like this are driving the folk that live on them mad, football is not immune. The agenda driven hysteria is only getting worse and broadcasters want to replicate social media, so where are people getting anything other than complete guff if they live on a phone?

@SeanHamSport Also, they got the decision correct. Credit to the officials including VARs.

@SeanHamSport Still trying agendas? Deary me. Anti VAR folk like you helped fuel this pile on btw, not sure if you have realised. So I'd maybe wind it in and have a think about the broader issue of the medias role from Sky to blue ticks peddling agendas and ragebait over balanced coverage.

VAR needs binned from Scottish football. It's massively unpopular, has made the experience of watching in stadiums by turns baffling and enraging, stretches a small refereeing cohort miles beyond its limit and is a trigger for controversy, rather than a solution to it. Get rid.

And those weighing in on our game, despite their only exposure to Scottish football being a 30-second clip from the end of a Motherwell v Celtic, should maybe take stock, zoom out, and look at the bigger picture before flying in two-footed.

@jhnmcgnly How about the club keep their mouth shut and just concentrate on winning the game? It is not the club's responsibility what happens once fans leave Celtic Park. We managed to celebrate success pretty well for over a century. No idea why things have changed in recent years

I'm not sure 'don't gather with like minded people in Glasgow' with regard to potential celebrations is a viable suggestion without an organised alternative. Understand the club have to be seen to be saying this but GCC and Celtic have had years to come up with a solution.

Everyone at Celtic is looking ahead to an exciting weekend where we aim to do all we can to bring our fans success again. As ever, our priority will be to ensure that all our fans have a safe experience right across the weekend ⤵️ #CelticFC🍀

Those who questioned the integrity of Sam Nicholson owe the boy an apology. The @MotherwellFC player swore on his kids life that the ball didn’t strike his hand. This new video clip is the clearest evidence of that. I’m looking at you @shebahn @chris_sutton73

@more_josh23 @pieandbov I heard Hearts could win the men's league, women's league and youth league? That must be a first if it happens.

@Zeshankenzo They are both employed to play the same games on Sky but Sutton regularly shows this guy up as a complete amateur. Boyd should be phoning into SSB.

Boyd is denying proveable reality in an attempt to invoke ‘clear and obvious’ mud. Mental the amount I’ve seen try this. And they think if they keep saying it that it makes it not clear and obvious. Sutton is way ahead hinting at ‘serious missed incident’ criteria for VAR

🗣️ "I am not convinced it hits his hand. Even if it does, I still don't think it's a punishable action." 🗣️ "For the record, Kris isn't a scientist." Kris Boyd & Chris Sutton discuss that Celtic penalty decision ahead of Saturday's big title decider, live on Sky Sports 📺

@jhnmcgnly The application still leaves a lot to be desired on the whole, we either clearly define what these vague phrases actually mean or we move away from this heavy approach. I'd be totally behind a far lighter presence, but I don't think last night was actually ambiguous.

Yes, I actually think this is fair. I do not enjoy VAR. I do not think it adds to the game. If we're using last night as an argument against the idea of utilising technology in this way, and scrutinising football to pixel-level analysis, I think that's valid.
Gregor Robertson@GregorRoberts0n

This is a pretty reasonable argument. The bit I disagree with, though, is the idea that a foul no one inside the stadium saw, about which there is still considerable ambiguity, can be retrofitted, with the benefit of slow motion replays, as a "serious missed incident". Madness.

Nothing shows more how romanticised football is by storylines than last night. Goalkeeper comes flying out, goes through a player with his knee, before the ball is in playing distance. If Celtic drew/lost, Gary Lineker and Jeff Sterling wouldn’t be saying a peep about it.

Good piece. I too have been a little baffled by the conversation around POTY which seems to pretty much admit that these awards are only for attackers and creators. It hasn't been a vintage year for attackers and creators across the league, logic dictates that that means it has been a really strong one for defenders and goalkeepers. I find it strange how readily and explicitly people suggest their contributions are lesser.
Matt Pyzdrowski@mattpyzdrowski

If David Raya was a striker, we’d be calling his season world-class.
Because he’s a goalkeeper, the conversation feels different. My latest for @TheAthleticFC on why Raya’s season should change the Player of the Year debate. nytimes.com/athletic/72755…
