The Sutton Hoo ship burial (often misspelled as "Hutton See") is one of the most spectacular archaeological discoveries ever made in Britain. It dates to the early 7th century AD (around 620–625) and was found in 1939 at Sutton Hoo, a site near Woodbridge in Suffolk, England, on the estate of landowner Edith Pretty. The helmet and the whole burial are often compared to the world of the Old English epic poem Beowulf — with its descriptions of ship funerals, helmets adorned with boars, and warrior culture. Today, the original helmet (and many other finds) are on display in Room 41 of the British Museum in London. It's genuinely one of those finds that feels like peering directly into the world of early medieval kings and warriors.
