What a great privilege to tune in to an interview today with Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Sonia Sotomayor in the 8th grade THRIVE classes! This was a special treat put on by iCivics for #CivicLearningWeek !

As part of #CivicLearningWeek, 8th graders in Mr.Williams English class are examining 3 historical figures and critically thinking through the question: “Why is learning to read a powerful tool for freedom?”

In Celebration of #America250 AND #CivicLearningWeek, our students have been creating 6x6 cloth tiles for the #MyAmerica quilt project. Our blocks will be sent to Massachusetts and joined with others from across the nation to create a beautiful tapestry celebrating our country!

Derby North Middle School was inspected by the Kansas Department of Agriculture yesterday and received zero violations. This is the second perfect inspection they have received this year.

Energy Expo!! Students in Ms Ross’s Energy and the Environment class researched and created a presentation over a renewable energy source. Even Mr. smith came and checked out their presentations.

We are so excited to welcome our Class of 2033 for their middle school orientation.

The DNMS Millennium Falcon Choir was invited to perform at the Kansas Music Educator Conference this morning and did a fantastic job.

Mrs. Goble, DNMS Counselor, is helping Derby Hills Dragon 5th Graders learn about classes offered at DNMS. We are so excited they will be Falcons next year!

In Ms. Rebel’s 7th grade class, students strengthened their critical thinking skills using Claim–Evidence–Reasoning process. Claims made, text evidence selected, and ideas tied together with reasoning. Learning to clearly explain why and back it up with proof is a powerful skill!

Our Student Council is hosting a Movie Night this Friday from 7:00-9:30 for DNMS Students. We will be watching the movie Holes. $5 to enter and then our concession stand will be open.
