American Raptors fly-half Line Latu (@JLatu11) will play in his first rugby match in nearly 10 months since he was hit by a wrong-way driver on the highway on the way to a tryout with the L.A. Giltinis. Here's the story of Latu's long road back to rugby. thednvr.com/line-latus-lon…

Tomorrow's match is bigger than rugby. It's about Lt. Col. Kevin Shea. Shea graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1989, where he lettered in football and played rugby. He played in the 1987 Freedom Bowl and was a member of Air Force's rugby team that won the collegiate national championship (1989). Upon graduation, he was cross-commissioned as a Marine second lieutenant. He continued his rugby career as a player with the All-Marine and Combined Services rugby teams. Eventually assigned to the First Recon, Shea's first combat deployment was during the First Gulf War. He was promoted to the rank of major in 1999 and earned a master of science degree in electrical engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School in California and went on to teach electrical engineering at the Naval Academy. While in Annapolis, Shea served as an assistant coach of Navy's men's rugby team from 2000-03 with the Class of 2003 selecting him as an honorary graduate of the Naval Academy. After his time at Navy, he reported to the 1st Marine Division and deployed to Iraq as the regimental communications officer for the 1st Marines. Shea was selected for lieutenant colonel while deployed and was to take command of the 9th Communications Battalion. Shea was killed in action on Sept. 14, 2004, his 38th birthday. He was nominated for a Bronze Star with Valor prior to his death. #RugbyTownUSA | #SheaCup2024

The @RugbyTown_USA remembrance of fallen United States service members may be one of the best traditions in sports. Moving, emotional, powerful. Thank you to all who have served and found time for the beautiful game of #rugby alongside of their service. 🙏

I was curious about what the USA women's bronze did for @USARugby's social following. Look at these numbers! They've gained 42,556 Instagram followers since Monday. For reference, it appears that the IG account usually grows by about 1,000 followers per month. 📈🚀📈
