🇮🇳 On 22 July 1947, India's Constituent Assembly adopted the Tricolour as the national flag of the soon-to-be sovereign nation. The flag features three horizontal bands of saffron, white and green, with the Ashoka Chakra, a 24-spoked navy-blue wheel, at its centre. The Chakra replaced the spinning wheel associated with Mahatma Gandhi and symbolised progress, justice and the rule of law. The adoption of the Tricolour marked more than the selection of a national emblem. It represented the emergence of modern India from nearly two centuries of British colonial rule and the unification of a vast and diverse population under a common national identity.
