If the PFP NFT meta has a future, it's as Vtuber avatars used in live streams. They're basically 2D puppets that are auto animated in real time. This VTuber group Luxiem has put out multiple music videos with 15-20M+ views, and visually it's just 2D images sliding around. Today they announced new outfits they are using in streams, each video has 350K+ views in the last 12 hrs. The animation quality is quite low right now but they'll only get better with AI animation tools. It's probable that the avatars themselves will become more like realtime video filters than the static puppets made right now. But regardless, people are ascribing an incredibly high level of emotional and cultural value to them. These VTubers are worshiped like pop stars. Their twitter accounts each have over 1m followers and they're trending on youtube fairly regularly and I don't have a single mutual that's following them. But a lot of people into NFTs are holding tons of digital avatars they've paid a lot of money for and argue that virtual avatars are the future.
