I think we’re not angry enough at whoever started the Ronaldo vs Messi debate. Messi bro, he’s up there with the greatest goalscorers in football history despite playing over 160 fewer games than Ronaldo. That’s the part people conveniently ignore. Then talk about the greatest playmakers of all time… Messi is there too. Goals, assists, chance creation, dribbling, vision, he literally ticks every box. Messi is an alien, bro. I genuinely don’t think football will ever witness another player who combines elite goalscoring and elite playmaking at this level again.

Kang-in Lee is a quality player, no doubt. Technically gifted, versatile, and I think he’ll fit Simeone’s intensity really well. But here’s my issue: Atlético Madrid and Diego Simeone seem to escape criticism that almost every other top club gets. Over the last few years they’ve spent big on players like Julián Álvarez (€95m), Conor Gallagher (€34m), Robin Le Normand (€35m), Alexander Sørloth (€32m), and now Kang-in Lee, yet the return in terms of major trophies has been underwhelming. Simeone is still one of the best managers around, but for the level of investment Atlético have made, I honestly expected more than a handful of domestic cups over the last five seasons. I hope Kang-in proves to be another smart addition, but sooner or later this project has to start delivering silverware consistently.
