@totalstemteach Grades should reflect what students know and are able to do. Should a student be penalized if it takes them longer to master content than other students? What’s more important - mastery or meeting a deadline?

I had an intense conversation with a colleague about grading. I don’t give 0s or penalize late work, and I give 2nd chances. Their argument was it is not fair to other students who turn their work in on time, and I am not preparing them for the workforce. I need backup. Anybody??
