In the solemn darkness of Holy Friday, Orthodox Greece gathers in profound mourning for Her crucified Lord. The Epitaphs — adorned with fragrant spring flowers as a final act of love — are lifted upon the shoulders of the faithful and carried through the silent streets. Thousands of candles flicker like tears in the night, while ancient hymns of lament rise into the heavens: the sorrowful voice of the Holy Mary weeping for her divine Son. No joy is yet permitted. No Resurrection hymns are sung. Only mourning — deep, collective, and timeless. From the bustling avenues of Athens to the quiet mountain villages and the wave-kissed shores of the islands, Greece walks behind the funeral bier of Christ as one body, one heart, one sorrow. The video is from the town of Nafpaktos, by Mary_Tsim and Discover Greece. Awesome work!

Happy Independence Day to Hellas, the land whose history shaped so much of our world’s cultural and intellectual heritage. We love you, Greece 🇬🇷
