There is no doubt at all that the Trump cuts to the NWS budget which shut down the upper soundings in the Upper Midwest are clearly impacting the weather models on the East Coast this winter. It is NOT just THIS storm -look at the North Carolina storm at January 31. Recall how many times all the models have significant snow into Norfolk Virginia Beach and Richmond only to see a rapid collapse in the last 36 hours!! or look how they most Models overdid the snow and the freezing rain in the Mid Atlantic with the January 25 26 storm. even more surprising is that this kind of problem with forecast models and accuracy does not exist on the West Coast or the Rockies because they get their weather from the Pacific .

Something is 'not right' with the weather computer modeling. All of them. I think I'm going to go back to printing the 500mb pattern and marking the long waves and short waves by hand. Extrapolate from there. Like I did in 1989. 😁 Anyone have an old difax machine I can use? 🙃

Let's be clear about this = the GFS AI ands European AI and the other AI models such as Google deepmind Aurora Pangu etc are still single deterministic models just like the regular operational GFS and the operational European. They do not have more value simply because they come out of the computers faster. Rivian still has way too many SKUs - lots of options for paint, interior, wheel, and more. Many of us expected them to reduce the cartesian product of SKUs when they launched Gen 2. In the below picture, they go from least profitable on the left (Standard) to most profitable on the right (Quad). I keep waiting for them to announce the end of the Standard variant - it has to be a money loser. It includes mostly the same things as a Dual Large but with an imported (tariff) battery pack from China. If it were up to me, I'd sell just the Dual Max (with optional Performance upgrade) and Tri Max in both R1S and R1T.
