In 30 years, I've had to draw this weapon many times and had a few close calls. I thank God I've never had to use it. That doesn't make me better than officers who had to make that tough call; God just saw fit in His wisdom for me to avoid it thus far. In the remaining time I have left, I pray it continues that way until I can holster it up for good. This job is a rollercoaster. One minute you're trying to help someone a broken system has failed, or holding a meeting to assure the community you're there for them. Then it can switch in a second to defend your life and the lives of others. It’s wild. But I’ll never regret the choice I made. I know many will disagree, but it’s the greatest job in the world. God bless every man and woman brave enough to do it.
