Can José Mourinho Repeat History at Real Madrid? The possibility of José Mourinho returning to Real Madrid CF would instantly send shockwaves across world football. For many Madrid fans, Mourinho is more than just a former manager — he was the man who rebuilt the mentality of the club during one of the toughest eras in its modern history. But the biggest question remains: can Mourinho achieve the same level of success that Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane enjoyed after his first spell at Madrid? There is no doubt Mourinho laid the foundation for Real Madrid’s future dominance in Europe. When he arrived in 2010, Barcelona under Pep Guardiola were arguably the greatest football team on the planet. Madrid were struggling mentally against their biggest rivals and constantly falling short in the UEFA Champions League. Mourinho changed that mentality completely. He transformed Real Madrid into warriors again — aggressive, fearless, and mentally strong. Even club president Florentino Pérez publicly praised Mourinho’s impact on the squad and culture of the club. Many believe the competitive mentality Mourinho built became the platform for the Champions League dominance that followed under Ancelotti and Zidane. However, football has changed dramatically since 2013. While Mourinho remains one of the greatest managers in football history, doubts remain about whether he can conquer Europe again with the current Real Madrid squad — even if he is given full control over transfers and team decisions. Ironically, Mourinho’s greatest Champions League triumphs came when he was the underdog. At FC Porto and Inter Milan, he built disciplined, hungry teams without relying heavily on massive spending. Those victories were built on tactical brilliance, defensive organization, and an unmatched winning mentality. That environment often brings out the best in Mourinho. But history also shows a different side. During his time at Chelsea F.C., he had enormous financial backing and access to some of the world’s best players, yet the Champions League trophy constantly escaped him. In his first spell at Real Madrid, despite strong support in the transfer market, he failed to win the Champions League in three seasons. The same story continued at Manchester United F.C., where the club spent heavily on players like Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku, but Mourinho could not take United beyond the latter stages of Europe’s elite competition. Can he still win trophies if he returns to Madrid? Absolutely. Mourinho has already proven he can break dynasties. He ended Barcelona’s dominance once before by winning La Liga with a record-breaking Real Madrid side that competed against one of the greatest teams football has ever seen. There is every reason to believe he could challenge Barcelona again and potentially win La Liga or the Copa del Rey. But the Champions League is a different beast today. Modern football is faster, more tactical, and far more competitive than it was during Mourinho’s peak years. Europe’s elite clubs now possess incredible squad depth, advanced tactical systems, and financial power that make the competition more unpredictable than ever before. That is why Mourinho returning to Real Madrid would not just be a football story — it would be one of the most fascinating redemption stories in modern football history.

@ABysswalker1302 So do you think it’s easier for Jose Mourinho to win Champions league or Laliga with this current Real Madrid squad?

@DSportMind "We saw how referees were against Fenerbache last season. " l am totally agree with you about this. But even the corruption in the league, Mourinho said after he left here "I returned my level". This was betrayal for us and his football was not good especially in the big games.

Do you think José Mourinho is the ideal manager for the current Real Madrid CF team? 🤔 YES or NO?

I respect your opinion but I don’t agree with you. Why Turkish league is one of the most fascinating leagues in the world and the Turks are very passionate about their football clubs, let’s not take away the corruption rampaging the league. We saw how referees were against Fenerbache last season. We should not also forget the squad depth. Fenerbache did not have a good squad and yet Jose Mourinho led them to second position with 82 points compared to this season where over 200 million euro was invested on the new players and ended up with 74 points.

@DSportMind I think he could bring a winning mentality, but the squad dynamics might clash with his style. What do you think?

@ErayEser_Kam I believe he tried his best at fenerbache. Blame Ali Koç for his failure.
