Thanks @LATstevelopez for walking DTLA streets, highlighting what’s special, and talking about the path forward — the future of Downtown is residential. “After COVID, raids and other blows, DTLA is hurting. But ‘Mr. Downtown’ believes it will rise again” latimes.com/california/sto…

I see @nithyavraman just launched her housing platform! Overall it's thorough + great, grounded in evidence-based policy shown to get housing built and address the cost of living. #the-platform" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">nithyaforthecity.com/#the-platform My take: Easily the most YIMBY platform ever put forward by an LA elected

We need to stop prioritizing parking lots over people. Today, I assembled a roundtable to discuss our Building Up Illinois Developments Plan — and the consensus was that we need to act fast. Looking forward to passing it and getting to work in our neighborhoods.

There isn’t a housing shortage. Rents are not going to come down just because L.A. builds 840,000 new units. Rent is already too expensive with most 1 bd going for 3000-4000 a month. You think it’s gonna go lower ? 🤣 Rent only goes up, it doesn’t go down. It’s bullshit. It’s all bullshit.

Thanks @cd14losangeles @LAPDCentral for your quick reply this morning regarding the viral video of the Alexandria Hotel room circulating on social media ft destruction and vandalism and inviting more of the same in a building that’s home to hundreds of Downtowners.
Councilmember Ysabel Jurado@cd14losangeles

Our office is aware of the video circulating online involving a property at 501 S Spring St. We are working to verify the details and are in contact with the property owner and City departments. The safety of all residents and neighbors remains our top priority.

Grateful to @MayorOfLA @YsabelJuradoLA @LAPDCentral for responding to resident calls for improved public safety after this weekend’s street takeover and smash and grab. We’re expecting increased footbeat resources and a new DTLA public safety working group. Time to make it happen
LAPD Central Division@LAPDCentral

⚠️Community Advisory⚠️ Due to recent events on the Figueroa Corridor between Pico Blvd and 7th St, the @MayorOfLA and @LAPDPoliceChief joined residents and business owners, with a statement of immediate improvement and enforcement in the area.

@Cassy_Horton @YsabelJuradoLA Excellent first steps—but a first step only. As the motion itself states, LADOT already knows a lot of this, including how to solve it—studies from Huizar’s days. Narrow the streets, slow down the cars. Speed humps. Make dangerous driving in DTLA *impossible* . Good first step!

Great news! Thanks @YsabelJuradoLA for CD calling for a DOT studying on street calming measures to prevent street takeovers and drag racing in DTLA after this weekend’s incident at Circa. Grateful for the responsiveness and hope this leads to lasting safety for residents!
