Colorado observations after Avs win over Kings last night. 1) The Avs have a Stanley Cup roster as they were constituted last night. They might have the most balanced and best Top 6 group in the NHL. Size, speed, length, net front grit...If they can figure out some production in the bottom 6, they will be a 110+ point team. 2) I'm still a little concerned about Landeskog--just the look on his face last night. In could be reading WAY too much into it. I just wonder if he can still be a 70+ game guy. I hope so. His kind are a dying breed. He's such a charismatic CEO adult in the room. He just lets MacKinnon and Makar and everyone just play. Playing with Nelson and Nichushkin is ideal for him on nights he doesn't feel great. Ideally they need him for the postseason. 3) Marty Necas has bet on himself and he's about to get a huge contract. He's still just 26. He and Kempe are likely in same boat where the team wants 9 and the player wants 11. And who knows, he might want 12 now. Playing with MacKinnon and this power play, he should be a 30-35 goal/85-90 point guy. I'd just bite the bullet, offer 8x11.5. He'd be foolish not to take it. Play for championships, and have an outside chance at a 1,000 game/1,000 point career 4) If Val Nichushkin can stay on the ice for 77+ games he will have a career year. He's a beast. 22 goals his last 37 playoff games! 5) Getting Logan O'Connor back will really help their bottom 6. Colton is well slotted there too to get good matchups. It would be a big plus if Jack Drury can get to 10 goals and 30 points at center. Long term at deadline I imagine they will look to add a high level bottom 6 and a big left shot D. The Avs only pay their goalies 6.75 which really helps a teams depth. Nichushkin and Lehkonen making a combined 10.5 is something. I mean, they COULD combine for 55 goals and 105 points.
