🔵 | IPF CEO Speaks on Advancing Implementation of the AU STC Declaration on Sustainable Financing for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health through Cross-Sector Collaboration Every year, hundreds of thousands of women die during or after pregnancy and childbirth, while millions of children do not live to celebrate their fifth birthday. Most of these deaths are preventable when public resources are allocated, disbursed, and managed effectively. On the sidelines of the Joint 9th Session of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee on Finance, Monetary Affairs, Economic Planning and Integration in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, the IPF CEO @DWNdirangu joined policymakers and development partners for a high-level dialogue on translating the AU Ministerial Declaration on Sustainable Financing for Women's, Children's and Adolescents' Health into measurable action. Speaking during the session, Mr. Ndirangu emphasized that stronger health outcomes depend on stronger public finance systems. 💬 "Sustainable health financing begins with sound public financial management. Countries must strengthen domestic resource mobilization, ensure predictable budget execution, empower health facilities with greater financial autonomy, and build financing systems that guarantee timely delivery of essential health services. Moving from commitment to implementation requires financing reforms that are embedded within public finance systems." Mr. Ndirangu highlighted three policy priorities for the AU to accelerate implementation: ➡️ Strengthen public financial management and domestic resource mobilization to ensure predictable budget execution and timely intergovernmental fiscal transfers. ➡️ Expand financial autonomy for health facilities within robust accountability frameworks, enabling facilities to sustain essential services even when government disbursements are delayed. ➡️ Secure sustainable financing for Essential Health Benefit Packages through realistic actuarial planning, predictable public financing, stronger revenue collection, and improved governance. As African countries pursue industrialization and economic transformation, resilient health systems must remain central to sustainable development. Delivering better health outcomes for women, children, and adolescents requires financing reforms that are integrated into national public finance systems and backed by strong accountability.

Picture this: You get paid, but before you can buy groceries, pay school fees, or invest in your future, 62% of your salary vanishes into debt repayments . That’s Kenya’s reality, where debt service is eating up most of the tax revenue, leaving little for roads and healthcare🧵1/

On 31 July 2024, the Court of Appeal, in the case of National Assembly & Another v Okiya Omtatah & 56 Others, declared the entire Finance Act, 2023 unconstitutional. What the judgment means 👇🏾. #IPFExplainer #PublicFinanceManagement

Budgets are the main policy tool that governments can use to reduce inequalities and promote sustainable national development. Do we invest our resources in such a way that enhances equity and efficiency? Do our budgets respond to citizen needs? #CBTS2022Report
