When I was a child growing up in Akuse; my father used to give me money to take Trotro to Odumase to go to the library and read/study. There was also another library near Atua I think. (That second library, I owe them a lot of books for all the books, I borrowed and lost or stole. But that’s another matter for another day. I was around 10/11years old. Anyway, Whenever I went to the library at Odumase. The Odumase district court was close by. So unknown to my parents, I would go sneak into the District Court and just watch proceedings. That was my favourite pastime. At lunch, I will go buy food, eat and come back and sit and watch the proceedings. One day, my mother, came looking for me; and came to find me in the court. A policewoman, I was dragged by the ear out. My secret was out and my escapades came to an end. She then decided to put the fear of God in me. Stories about how one day an accused person can point me as an accomplice to a theft and robbery. I was scared straight, even for an opinionated, fast talking boy. I never went back. But my fascination with the law never ended. Shalom .

The story of Sima Ibrahim remains one that many Ghanaians will never forget — a tale of remarkable success, controversy, and a tragic end. Sima Ibrahim was more than just a name in Ghana’s fashion industry; he was a true pioneer and visionary. As a leading figure who helped establish and professionalize modeling in the country at a time when the sector was still struggling for acceptance, he introduced innovative concepts such as children’s modeling. He played a pivotal role in elevating Ghana onto the global fashion map, most notably by founding Ghana Fashion Week. To many young aspiring models and creatives, he opened doors and created life-changing opportunities. His meteoric rise was both inspiring and transformative. However, everything changed on 7th September 2009. While preparing to travel to Germany, Sima was arrested at the airport. Authorities discovered cocaine hidden inside tubers of yam in his luggage. Sima maintained his innocence, insisting he had no knowledge of the drugs and that the yams had been given to him by someone else to deliver abroad. The court, however, reached a different conclusion. After a prolonged trial, he was convicted in 2011 and sentenced to 15 years in prison. The man who once commanded the spotlight at glamorous fashion shows suddenly found himself behind bars. While serving his sentence, tragedy struck again. In December 2014, Sima Ibrahim died in prison. According to reports, he fell ill shortly after playing a game of football. What began as a normal day ended in a medical emergency. An autopsy later determined the cause of death to be acute appendicitis. His passing sparked widespread questions and criticism, with many believing he did not receive timely medical attention, while prison authorities maintained that appropriate procedures were followed. And just like that, the life of a man who had once stood tall as a trailblazer in Ghana’s fashion industry came to a sudden and painful end.
