Was cleaning out a dresser tonight and found what I thought was lost, a letter Wendell Berry sent me more than twenty years ago.

Today Jack asked some questions about Jesus’s ascension. He asked how he got from earth to Heaven. I said he ascended, or rose into the air. Jack thought a minute & replied: “I think he flew into the air, and God, but Jesus is God, opened up a portal and he flew through it.”

Tonight in our bedtime reading I read to Jack, for his first time, the chapters in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe: “The Witch’s Triumph” and “Deeper Magic from Before the Dawn of Time.”

Took my boy to see the new Mario movie tonight. We had a lot of fun. The movie was good. Watching him laugh and smile and squeal and clap was a lot better.

For my first time, tomorrow morning I have to report for jury duty. Any tips?

On March 21, 2024 my wife hit a pot hole and busted the right front tire on our car. On March 21, 2025 I hit a pot hole and busted the right front tire on our car. Today we’re not leaving the house.

Yesterday my wife and I were out to dinner and I received a phone call from a county deputy. Apparently there had been a wreck in our front yard that had torn the grass up a bit.

Big day. Took Jack to a check-up post eye surgery, had a good meal with the family, got a haircut, and received my very first jury summons. That’s enough for a Monday.

Jack was outside “exploring” with his grandfather today, and at one point he said to him, “Pa, I’m going to climb down this bank, but don’t go too far away; I know Jesus will be with me, but if we get stuck we may both need you to come help us out.”

Jack spent a lot of time playing outside this evening, building a fort out of sticks and rocks. Before bed he looked at us and said, “Anything’s possible in the wilderness.”
