I can't stop thinking about the potential for harms resulting from overeager (& self-interested) researchers hyping psychedelic therapies & instilling unrealistic expectations in potential patients. The (rare) cases of study participant suicide underscore these concerns.

@PsychedelicWeek @Psyched4News @MasonMarksMD The issue isn't "legal effect," it's that people who crafted/promoted policy that was *explicitly* framed as legalizing a therapeutic intervention are now going around bellowing that m109 isn't about therapy and acting confused as to why the public would think it is.

If you’re saying M109 should have been better drafted and people misrepresent what it does, then I fully agree.

It's been wild watching the retreat around m109. Wannabe thought leaders pretending like they didn't say the things they said, or that the measure wasn't crafted in ways that perpetuate this confusion. Honestly, this whole debacle is one facet of the harms of medicalization, imo

You don't need to be treating a medical condition for your drug use to be "legitimate." Do the drugs you wanna do, fight for decrim, and stop crafting/promoting/marketing pseudomedical bullshit. Well-crafted research would be cool, too.

The reality is that the language of medicalization is used by folks ranging from practitioners to lawmakers in order to justify/protect drug use, but it ends up marketing understudied interventions to vulnerable populations and can cause real harms. twitter.com/SashaSisko/sta…

So CoP is now "The Church of The Sacred Synthesis" (still hosted at psilomethoxin.com). Its website *still* promotes injecting people w/ "psilomethoxin" mystery goo. Its IG still says it used the "Shulgin recipe" to produce psilomethoxin and "it seems to have worked."
