It does not matter how much you paid for him. If he is selfish, he will infect others. If he is a cancer, he will spread. And Bill would say it plainly: "I made a mistake. You are gone. For the betterment of the team." He was not cruel. He was clear. He was willing to admit his own error and still make the hard call. Most leaders will not do this. They protect the cancer because of the investment. They justify the behavior because of the results. They wait too long and the culture rots from the inside. What you tolerate, you teach. What you refuse to address, you endorse. Whether it is your team, your family, or your own habits: Cut the cancer. Pay the cost now. Or pay a far greater cost later.
