A little bit about us. We have been best friends since we were 5. We graduated high school together. We lived together in college. We have been in bands together and worked multiple jobs together. We have been through the extreme highs and extreme lows that this life brings together. We are both fathers of two and we the do the best we can to lead our children down the right path. We have an extreme passion for video games and music. Our goal is to make a video game because this life is short and at some point you need to do something that you truly want to do. We are going to document this adventure as much as we can and would love for you to follow us on that journey.

@metatransformr The graphics remind us of EQOA the PS2 version of EQ. Its like you are making a game designed specifically for us. We can't get enough of it!

Finding my graphical style - PS2 era. Year 1998-2004 target. I didn't want to make a super stylized cartoony RPG, even though it would be much easier to find assets. I've always been a fan of Everquest and Morrowind's graphical styles. So what I did: - Experiment with different levels of dithering as a global filter to get a feel for the level of quality I wanted. - Ended up somewhere between PSX and PS2 level of potato quality - Built a compression and retopo pipeline for my existing high quality textures and meshes. With this level of quality I have a lot more freedom to procedurally generate 3d models like this arena and these walls in more basic shapes, which results in a game that's easier as develop. My design goal is to use procedural generation on both the dungeons and the overworld to make a "big" game with very little budget. Lowering the graphical quality standards allows me to put my focus on RPG systems and level design so I can make more, fun dungeons and a more playable game. I was saying the other day, my goal with Valenfeld is to make something like Bethesda's Elder Scrolls Arena - a prototype of a large idea, with all the jenk that comes with doing it at a low budget, but showing what will be possible in the next game(s.) My goal is to make a series of these games over the next several years on an increasing budget, and to get Valenfeld out on a relatively short timeline (< 12 months) It's a lot of work though!

Valenfeld is an open world RPG with roguelike procedural dungeons, with an insane amount of theorycrafting. First off, you have subclasses. So you can combine War/Cleric to make a Paladin, War/Necro to make a Shadowknight, Druid/Wizard etc. You can combine talent trees for both your main and subclass to make a special class. But then there's the party system. You can add your OWN ALTS to your party. So you + 3 of your alts (or your friends, online) can play together in a party and level up. As your party size increases, so does the difficulty of your enemies and the epicness of your loot. But there's more. You can select from a variety of AI's for each of your party member - so you can set a tank, a healer, DPS or anything else. Not enough control? You can actually edit the AI scripts for each of your party members and create custom AI templates based off of an event model. You can select orders for your party (like mount & blade), or even create custom orders that wire into your AI. (like for instance, "cast DOTs" or "scatter") Dungeon bosses will feel like typical MMO bosses - ability telegraphing, interrupts, adds, etc. --- Demo scope is 10 refined procedural dungeons with custom quests and bosses, in a starting zone (lvl 1-10). Also, arena for Mount & Blade style tournaments and daily arena battles. Salvage weapons/armor to get materials to +1 your gear, farm bosses for sweet loot... and don't die in a dungeon or you lose half your gains.
