Somalia remains firmly committed to advancing its natural resource sector in a transparent, responsible, and internationally aligned manner—ensuring that its benefits contribute meaningfully to national prosperity and the well-being of its people. It was an honor for me to hold a productive meeting today at the Ministry’s office with fuel importers in the country. The purpose was to assess the national fuel supply situation, price fluctuations, and challenges emerging from global markets. We focused on ensuring a steady supply of fuel across the country, addressing price pressures linked to global changes, and strengthening transparency in pricing and distribution processes. The traders pledged to intensify their efforts to ensure there are no disruptions in the country’s fuel reserves. The Government of Somalia is committed to working closely with fuel importers to maintain market stability, protect consumers, and ensure a continuous fuel supply that supports national security, the economy, and public services.

The signing of the MOU with the historic mining state of West Virginia and the Senate resolution adopted by the West Virginia Senate reflect the success of the Federal Government of Somalia’s economic diplomacy and our determination to position Somalia in the global supply chains of critical minerals. In an era shaped by the energy transition, AI, and advanced technologies, Somalia has much to offer in natural resources and sees partnership with US actors as decisive in unlocking investment, technology, and access to global markets.

In Charleston, I had the honor of signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Government of Somalia and the State of West Virginia on economic cooperation for the mining and processing of critical minerals. This partnership will advance technical collaboration, support responsible resource development, and open new opportunities for investment. 🇸🇴🤝🇺🇸

Honored to join my fellow Cabinet Ministers in a constructive meeting today with representatives of the United States to discuss Somalia’s extractive industries. Our discussions focused on petroleum and minerals development, strengthening regulatory transparency, advancing offshore progress, and fostering a stable, investment-ready environment. Somalia is entering a commercially significant phase in its resource development journey. We welcome responsible U.S. companies and strategic partnerships that align with our commitment to transparency, sustainability, and long-term value creation based on win-win approach. We deeply value continued U.S. engagement in supporting institutional capacity, private sector investment, and sustainable growth that delivers lasting benefits for the Somali people and the broader region.

I reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to building a modern, transparent, and investment-ready mining sector. Our focus is clear: responsible resource development that creates jobs, strengthens institutions, and delivers lasting value for our people. Africa’s progress lies in partnership — and Somalia is ready to play its part.

My heartfelt appreciation goes to Somali Parliament for today’s validation of the Mining Bill, which reflects a strong commitment to responsible governance, transparency, and national development.

The 3 day meeting between the Ministry of Petroleum & Minerals (FGS) and State Ministries has concluded with a strong consensus. We reaffirmed the primacy of national unity, constitutional cooperation, and collective decision-making in managing Somalia’s petroleum and mineral resources. All parties committed to coordinated action, rejecting fragmentation, and ensuring our natural resources are developed transparently, responsibly, and in the supreme interest of the Somali people.

I am delighted to attend the first coordination meeting with the Ministers of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the FMS, the Benadir Regional Administration, and the Natural Resources Subcommittee of the Upper House. The 3 day meeting focuses on strengthening cooperation, sharing technical and legal information, and coordinating efforts for the sustainable development and management of Somalia’s petroleum and mineral resources.

I am delighted today to have visited the Turkish Petroleum - Offshore Technology Centre (TP-OTC) Centre to mark the opening of Somali Petroleum Authority’s office. A positive step taken to strengthen technical cooperation and deepen our partnership in advancing Somalia’s energy sector through knowledge sharing and capacity building.

It was a great honor for me to be present today at the press release where the Presidents of Somalia and Turkey, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, announced the results of Somalia’s oil exploration. The results of Somalia’s oil exploration—particularly the modern 3D seismic data—have shown positive indicators suggesting the presence of hydrocarbon potential. Planning for the first phase of oil drilling is set to begin, with the drilling vessel expected to arrive in Somalia in the coming months. We reaffirm our commitment to transparency, good governance, and the protection of national interests, with the aim of ensuring that the country’s natural resources are utilized for sustainable development, job creation, and economic growth that benefits all Somali citizens. I would like to extend my special appreciation to the Government of Turkey for the honorable role it played in implementing Somalia’s oil exploration project, as well as for its technical support and strategic partnership that led to this national achievement.
