Daily Baseball Cards

The wrist is healing and I get the cast off on Oct. 5th. Rehab after that so I can learn to bend it again. Hopefully I'll be back to posting soon. Thanks for your patience!

I am sooooo happy!! One of my all-time favorite players was elected to the Baseball HOF today. Congrats to Fred McGriff!! If not for the 1994 lockout, he would have had over 500 career HRs (496).

Brett also hit a walkoff HR in the 16th, his 2nd HR of the game.

5/28/79… George Brett hits for the cycle in the Royals' 5-4 victory over the Orioles, collecting a third-inning triple, homering in the 8th, singling in the 10th, and completing the feat with a double in the 14th frame. (1979 Topps card)

2/24/77… Bronson Arroyo is born in Key West, FL. Arroyo played 16 yrs in the Majors. He won 148 games, had a 4.28 career ERA, completed 16 games, tossed 6 shutouts, led the NL in IP in 2008, won a Gold Glove, & won one World Championship. (2011 Topps card)

2/18/81… Alex Rios is born in Coffee, AL. Rios played 12 yrs in the Majors with the Blue Jays, White Sox, Rangers, & Royals. He hit .277, scored 885 runs, had 1,778 hits, 374 doubles, 169 HRs, 794 RBI, 253 SBs, & won one World Championship. (2009 Topps card)

2/17/53… Jamie Easterly is born in Houston, TX. Easterly played 13 yrs in the Majors with the Braves, Brewers, & Indians. He won 23 games, saved 14 games, had a 4.62 career ERA as a mainly lefty specialist. (1979 Topps card)

2/15/66… Melido Perez is born in San Cristobal, DR. Perez played 9 yrs in the Majors with the Royals, White Sox, & Yankees. He won 78 games, had a 4.17 career ERA, completed 20 games, tossed 5 shutouts, & finished 2nd in the AL in K’s (218) in 1992. (1991 Topps card)

2/14/1915… Red Barrett is born in Santa Barbara, CA. Barrett played 11 yrs in the Majors. He won 69 games, had a 3.53 career ERA, completed 67 games, tossed 11 shutouts, and led the NL in Wins (23), CG (24) and IP (284.2) in 1945. (1949 Bowman card)

2/13/66… Jerry Browne is born in Christiansted, VI. Browne played 10 yrs in the Majors with the Rangers, Indians, A’s, & Marlins. He hit .271, scored 431 runs, had 866 hits, 135 doubles, 25 triples, 23 HRs, 288 RBI, 73 SBs, & led the AL in Sac Hits in 1992. (1992 Topps card)

2/12/1903… Chick Hafey is born in Berkeley, CA. Hafey played 13 yrs in the Majors with the Cardinals & Reds. He hit .317, scored 777 runs, had 1,466 hits, 341 doubles 164 HRs, 833 RBI, 70 SBs, won one batting title, & won 2 World Championships. (1991 Conlon card)

2/9/58… Pete O’Brien is born in Santa Monica, CA. O’Brien played 12 yrs in the Majors. He hit .261, scored 654 runs, had 1,421 hits, 254 doubles, 169 HRs, 736 RBI, had three 20+ HR seasons, and two 90+ RBI seasons, and was AL Player of the Week 2x. (1983 Topps Rookie card)

2/7/79… Jesse Orosco becomes 'the player to be named later' in the Mets' trade of Jerry Koosman to the Twins. The lefty reliever will spend 24 seasons in the majors, setting the record for appearances with 1,252. (1983 Topps card)

2/6/35… Dizzy Dean, who posted a 30-7 record last season for the Gashouse Gang, becomes a holdout when St. Louis refuses to meet his demand for a yearly salary of $25,000. Dean agrees to a $18,500 contract with a $1,000 bonus the next day. (1935 Rice-Stix card)
