Hamzat is trending because per reports, the All Progressive Congress (APC) has selected D. Gov Obafemi Hamzat as Lagos guber-candidate, Yayi for Ogun, although Abiodun didn’t support. Lagos contenders were Ambode, Femi Gbajabiamila, Tokunbo Wahab, Obasa, Tokunbo Abiru, Jandor, Hakeem Muri-Okunola; all to be compensated. Dapo Abiodun prefered Senator Shaibu Afolabi Salisu, but they settled for Yayi. Shaibu represents Ogun Central at Senate, but former Governor Ibikunle Amosun has been cleared for that position, leaving Dapo Abiodun to seek alternative compensation for Shaibu. Sharafadeen Alli also selected for Oyo, as he had majority backing including from the Olubadan of Ibadan, Ladoja. Alli is former Oyo State Govt secretary and Chief of Staff under Ladoja, before becoming senator for Oyo South. Bayo Adelabu wasn’t really considered because of unpopularity concerns. Adelabu was also not popular with members of APC Oyo, who all preferred Alli. Therefore it would be impossible for him to defeat Seyi Makinde’s annointed heir. All of these was concluded after two rounds of meeting on Sunday, in Lagos with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Punch reported exclusively. Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra, has appointed Chiamaka Nnake as secretary to the state government (SSG), making her the first woman to occupy the position in the state. Nnake, 39, is from Nawfia in Njikoka LGA of Anambra state. She previously served as commissioner for budget and economic planning in the state and was also chairman of Solution Fun City Limited.

UPDATE - Nasir El-Rufai @elrufai will remain in ICPC @ICPCNigeria custody after a Federal High Court in Kaduna adjourned his bail application to March 31. El-Rufai was arraigned in court today on charges of conversion of public property and money laundering, preferred against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). His counsel asked the court to grant him bail to allow him prepare his defence. The prosecution opposed the application, arguing that granting bail could interfere with the commission's ongoing investigation. The court sided with the prosecution. El-Rufai has been in ICPC detention since February 19, following his release by the EFCC. On March 5, a magistrate court extended his initial remand order by another 14 days. Journalists barred as el-Rufai’s money laundering trial begins - The Daily Circular Journalists were barred from the courtroom as former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai @elrufai appeared before a Federal High Court in Kaduna for arraignment over alleged money laundering and conversion of public property. He was brought in under heavy security and arraigned alongside Joel Adoga by the ICPC @icpcnigeria, with family members, including his son and lawmaker Bello el-Rufai, present in court. Petrol import bill falls 28% to $10bn in 2025— CBN - The Daily Circular Nigeria’s petrol import bill dropped by 28.88% to $10bn in 2025 from $14.06bn in 2024, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria, largely driven by local refining from the Dangote refinery owned by Aliko Dangote @AlikoDangote The CBN’s balance of payments report also showed mixed trends—non-oil imports rose 13.6%, crude oil export earnings fell 14.41%, while gas exports grew 21.36% and non-oil exports increased 24.8%. Overall, Nigeria recorded a current account surplus of $14.04bn and a balance of payments surplus of $4.23bn, with external reserves rising to $45.75bn by the end of 2025.
