In a new address, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud urged residents of Mogadishu to participate in tomorrow’s local elections, a process widely rejected by opposition groups. Opposition leaders condemned the elections in a press conference earlier today, describing them as fraudulent and accusing President Mohamud of using the vote as a political maneuver to justify an illegal two-year extension of his rule.

In a controversial and widely criticized move, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister’s Office released a video welcoming India’s prime minister that featured a distorted map appearing to absorb parts of Somalia while omitting Eritrea and Djibouti altogether. Observers warn the imagery could inflame regional tensions and see it as Abiy Ahmed’s increasingly bellicose push to secure coastal access from Eritrea and Somalia by force.

Two cargo trucks guarded by Technicals, similar to those seized earlier this week by Abdudwaq villagers, were spotted in Caleen, Qoraxey, Ethiopia, around 70 kilometers west of Abudwaq. It is believed these trucks may contain arms just like the ones prior and are headed toward Galgaduud & Hiraan. President of Galmudug, Ahmed Qoorqoor, has flown to Mogadishu to meet with the US Embassy regarding the convoy intercepted in Abudwaq a few days ago. The United States is concerned about the arms smuggling and summoned President Qoorqoor to discuss the situation.
