When I finished college I was briefly on the dole and was called in for an interview with someone from the welfare office who asked had I considered emigrating to Germany to teach there instead.
Unless on disability, no one should be on the dole for 10 years.

How can anyone be searching for a job for 10 years? The system should support people into work, not trap them in long term dependency. 6,300 people have remained on Jobseeker's Allowance for 10 straight years, costing taxpayers €820 million. A further 30,000 people have stayed on the payment for 5 consecutive years, costing €1.9 billion.

@Daire241 Factor in the cost of childcare too, particularly in areas like Dublin. If you’re earning say, 1500 per month and paying 1200 of that to a crèche then damn right I’d stay on the dole!

I agree with the Tánaiste & believe that proficiency in the English language should be a minimum requirement for Irish citizenship.

Letterkenny is the worst congested town in Ireland with the polestar roundabout being the focal point and Donegal county council approved a McDonald’s drive through for that exact spot.
Will need to pitch a tent when visiting Letterkenny as we’ll be stuck in traffic that long

You Know Your Hometown Is Turning To Shit When They're Building a Second McDonald's.
The Old House at the Port Bridge was demolished last week to make way for a Second McDonald's Drive-Thru.
The Entering/Exiting Drive-Thru Vehicles will make the Bottleneck Junction even worse.

Decided to build an outdoor sofa so we could watch the kids play in the back garden. So far I'm down 275€ in materials and woodstain and pillows are looking another 250! It's a gigantic thing and this was the smaller option on the American style plans!

My sister discovered bats coming out of her attic and she contacted Donegal Bat Rescue and then rangers came and counted 360 bats in her attic and they think they have babies so they estimate 720 bats in her house but they’re a protected species so she isn’t allowed to move them
