So many stupid takes on this. When the grid is stressed, we need to reduce power consumption. Climate change is stressing our infrastructure. It isn’t enough to say just bring on more capacity. First, we have excess power in the queues that are stuck there because of policy that is beyond the control of the mayor of a city. Second, what kind of power we bring on to meed demand matters. More fossil fuel plants will only make the situation worse because it is a result of fossil fuels. Third, what I see here are a bunch of antisocial idiots who are unwilling to do their part to keep hospitals powered, to keep granny alive in her nursing home, to keep emergency services operating. Grow up people.

If you are rich and own a Tesla, you're probably just fine for a couple of days. Your refrigerator, maybe not so lucky unless Elon starts making Smart Fridges. LOL. If you start a blackout with a full battery, I'm sure you will be nice and cozy living in your car. Money does solve a lot of problems.

Dear Karen. It's people with this mentality that cause blackouts. You're basically choosing your cold comfort above a reasonable decision of even keeping your temp at 72 or 74 so that your neighbors will not lose power and the ability to cool their houses. You want to solve the problem? Please help to get the power grid updated.
