Of all the things Trump has changed in our politics, the good and the bad, the absolute worst thing he introduced is this. Widespread, cult-like worship of a sitting president. It's totally different from the celebrity status of Obama or the reverence for Reagan; it is genuine, earnest blind loyalty; unconditional, tied to personality and zealotry-like faith that makes everything he believes right and everything he says truth. It has captured accounts and thinkers like "Catturd," who don't just espouse this loyalty but want others to join them in the prayer of Trump. Something like 25% of our country is right there with him, detached from any real ideology or belief system aside from belief in him. I find it equal parts cringe and terrifying. I hope we never see anything like it again.
