Think the heat is messing with my brain so I wondered to myself why a country like Japan with harsh winters would produce an airconditioning giant like Daikin. The company's origin is in metal works (that's what Daikin means) but the most interesting thing I learnt is that Japan's dense housing and small apartments favoured room by room systems (unlike America's larger houses where a central system works better) i.e. wall mounted and split-unit ACs. Split units of course were easier to sell in much of the world where people who could not afford to cool a whole house could at least cool one or two rooms.
