@ssg10 @MekongMemo @BrettRRay I think you might be missing the point. I’m suggesting they should just build that into the cost so that tourists are not confronted with such petty requests. I think we all agree that taxi prices could easily be double in Thailand and we would all be fine with that.

Travel the world as soon as back in BKK you’re confronted with a taxi driver debating luggage size to add ฿20 to the fee. Why go through this brain damage? Just add ฿20 to the taxi fee and avoid the first impressions nonsense of petty costs + luggage. C’mon Thailand, up your game

In 2002 it felt like the biggest game ever. In 2010 it felt like the biggest game ever. And in 2026 it feels like the biggest game ever — again

One moment that shaped how we work today? Back in 1999, locals in Chiang Rai showed us places no travelers were visiting. It led to incredible discoveries and lasting friendships. Ever since, finding magic “an inch off the map” has been at the heart of what we do.

Took 9 clients for canapés & drinks in LA. Ordered in advance, dined at opening hour 5 PM, paid a group surcharge + compulsory gratuity—yet felt like were an inconvenience + unwelcome. They wouldn’t make 2 bills due to “group policy”. What happened to hospitality, is it dead?

“Roughly 70% of tourism revenue is concentrated in just five provinces, with demand focused on holidays and peak seasons — leaving most destinations with limited income.” This is hardly new. Alongside other forward-looking industry leaders and organizations like @PATA_HQ, we’ve been advocating for visitor dispersion for years. The solutions are well-known; meaningful dialogue with the private sector can help government finally take decisive steps to avoid overtourism, protect natural and cultural sites, and achieve sustainable growth that benefits the whole country. France, roughly the same size as Thailand, welcomes more than twice as many tourists who spread across the country. And the IT for time-slot management at major sites and museums has existed for decades. Time to implement it at the Grand Palace, Wat Chetupon, Wat Arun, and other iconic Thai sites. bangkokpost.com/business/gener…

The miraculous multitasking, high-octane staff at Andre bistro are the hardest hustling in BKK. Polishing glasses while serving water, opening wine while cleaning tables, floating effortlessly through a crowded French bistro, smiling amidst a riot of kitchen chaos. Bless them.

Reflecting on 25yrs building a travel brand. Our focus was always quality, now w/more scale+responsibility. On Day 1 success meant fun ideas + new trips. Success now = innovating constantly & creating long-term opportunities for our clients and our team. I do love this journey!

@Thai_Talk Data like this on its own can appear dire, but do we have stats on last 20 yrs of the bottom 50% of Thai earners? Ex: are the bottom 10% earning more, are the middle 50% earning more, more access to creditand healthcare + services? Rich can get richer as long as the poor are too.

Root of Thailand’s stagnation and why we can’t have equity and self-determination. The top 1% just won’t allow it and the country’s future is held hostage. They will keep hold of power and obscene wealth, by hook or by crook.
Prachatai English@prachatai_en

The recently published 2026 World Inequality Report documents a worsening global situation, with Thailand singled out as one of the countries where ‘The top 1% takes a remarkably large share’ of wealth. Link in reply.

When Bodog launched in the early 2000’s, online gaming was already a crowded field. The key to standing out would be doing something better than our competitors. Even better would be doing something they weren’t doing at all. The early sites were run by back-of-the-bar bookies who decided the Caribbean was a better place to work in December. They knew nothing about customer service. In their minds, they were doing you a favour. You don’t like it? Find someone else to take your bets (if you could). I’ve spoken about our Mr. Wolf, who once ran a restaurant in Canada. If you can appease drunks with steak knives, keeping your cool with angry bettors over the phone is a piece of cake. So when we rebuilt our CS team, Mr. Wolf brought in some of his former restaurant staff. We boosted our CS team from 5 people to 60, started a night shift during the 2002 FIFA World Cup and a year later were offering CS 24/7. We snuck our people into CS conferences put on for unrelated sectors like life insurance, always looking for ways to improve our methods. I take pride in saying I was Bodog’s first ever CS rep, and to ensure this mindset permeated our organization, we instituted a policy in which every new hire, entry-level or senior manager, had to do a week of CS, answering calls and emails, treating customers with courtesy and respect. Anyone starting a new company in a crowded sector needs to read the field to see where you can stand out. In our case, it was putting ourselves at the bottom of an inverted pyramid, and our customers at the top.
