@MrWrightWays Enjoy your trip!! I just got back from 2 1/2 months vaca there it is a great place to relax, geek out, eat, and enjoy a honorable culture.

@DRolandAnderson @DrPippaM Could happen in my lifetime but more likely short term is what Dr. P is noticing that CN may start to leverage NK more than has in past. They have some large mineral reserves that will become increasing valuable as others are tapped out other places.
English

@DanClem033 @DrPippaM I didn’t even think about that.
I should have.
In the current timeline, I don’t think it’s a crazy idea.

I went up to the North Korean border because a lot is happening there. Headlines are noisy. When it comes to North Korea, the silence is deafening.
China is co-opting N Korea into its economy. The Xi-Trump Summit has more ambitious objectives than we realize. The Hermit Kingdom is being plugged back into the world economy. There's more. Much more....

You cannot buy a new gas turbine until 2030. Order books at GE, Siemens, and Mitsubishi stretch to 2029. Turbine prices have nearly tripled since 2019. Every AI data center needs power and every gas plant needs a turbine. And every turbine has one part that bottlenecks the entire industry: The blade. It has to survive in gas 500°C above the melting point of the metal it's made from and spin at up to 20,000 RPM under 10,000 g of centrifugal force. Each blade is grown as a single crystal of nickel superalloy, pulled through a vacuum furnace at 3 mm per minute. A set of blades costs $600,000 and takes 90 weeks to grow. The same metallurgy powers modern jet engines. Only 3 companies on Earth can build one. China spent $42 billion trying to catch up. They bought a Russian fighter engine, took it apart, and copied every part. Their copy ran 30 hours between overhauls versus 400 for the original. Modern Western engines run 4,000. You can reverse engineer the shape of a turbine blade. You cannot reverse engineer 60 years of metallurgy.

Looks like @topapate just clarified a LOT about the new #NeoGeo AES+ and it's pretty exciting. Links and more info in the post: retrorgb.com/jotego-confirm…

@akio_1963 Yes playing it for the first time a few years ago I thought it was brilliant. Fun things like this is what make some games so fun.

[Unexpected Alliance]
At the end of Metal Slug 2, the aliens, who appear to be cooperating with Morden’s Army, suddenly turn on them, capturing Morden with a tractor beam and attacking both forces.
Faced with a common enemy, the two sides, who had been locked in a fierce battle just moments before, immediately join forces. The Regular Army and Morden’s Army launch a full-scale assault on the massive alien UFO, the “City Destroyer.”
This storyline was a special idea I had been nurturing long before I took charge of planning for Metal Slug 2. It was something I had always hoped to bring to life.
Because the game was built around three core pillars, including player transformations like becoming a mummy or turning “fat,” as well as the climactic alliance with Morden’s Army, I had no hesitation in taking the game’s tone in a bold new direction.
When I first came up with these ideas, I was genuinely excited and convinced they would surprise fans of the series.
Even now, I receive many comments saying, “This is the most emotional scene in the entire series!”
I’m simply grateful for that response.

@gamer_lafan Yes will be interesting to see if they release 2 or X and the overclock system. X is my fav of the slugs I have 1cc that bad boy before.

Metal Slug 2 is a game I really enjoyed because, unlike the more serious tone of its predecessor, it leans heavily into comedic elements. The graphics were significantly improved, and the increased density of backgrounds and enemies gave it a quality that feels almost like watching an animated film.
However, due to poor optimization, the game often suffers from heavy slowdown, to the point where it can be difficult to play properly. This becomes especially noticeable in the later stages, where large numbers of enemies appear—just firing your weapon can turn the game into slow motion.
Because of this, a short time later, an optimized version of Metal Slug 2, known as Metal Slug X, was released.
With the upcoming Neo Geo AES+, which is said to include an overclocking feature, I’m really curious to see whether Metal Slug 2 will run more smoothly on it.

@basemntbrothers should be DanielClem or DanClem I think. dont wanna put my email here public

As cool as this would be, SSRPG was designed as a CD game from the ground up. It would be quite a monumental effort to pull it apart and make it work as a cartridge game. And the NeoSD Pro plays it basically as an ODE. So unless they're making a $90 ODE that can play the ISO...

@DanClem033 No, it doesn't work right. The sound will glitch early on and it won't come back. I'm sorry if someone gave you the impression this works.

The Japanese railway privatization of 1987 stands as one of the most devastating defeats ever dealt to statist transportation mythology. The government split the bloated Japan National Railways into seven regional companies, sold them off, and watched private ownership transform a bankruptcy-bound disaster into the world's most efficient rail system.
JNR hemorrhaged money for decades before privatization. By 1987, the state railway carried debt equivalent to $200 billion in today's money while delivering mediocre service plagued by strikes and inefficiency. Politicians treated it as a jobs program rather than a transportation service. The predictable result: chronic losses, deteriorating infrastructure, and customer service that reflected government monopoly arrogance.
Private ownership changed everything overnight. The new JR companies slashed operating costs by 40% within five years while dramatically improving service quality. JR East alone now generates annual profits exceeding $3 billion. These companies invest billions in cutting-edge technology, maintain punctuality rates above 99%, and operate the world's most advanced high-speed rail networks. They achieved this without a single yen of operational subsidies.
The transformation reveals a core dynamic of transportation infrastructure: private companies must satisfy customers to survive, while government monopolies need only satisfy politicians. JR companies diversified into real estate, retail, and hospitality around their stations, creating integrated profit centers that cross-subsidize rail operations. Government railways never innovate this way because bureaucrats face no market pressure to generate returns.
Meanwhile, Amtrak burns through $2 billion in annual subsidies while delivering third-world service across most routes, and European state railways require massive taxpayer bailouts every few years to stay solvent.
