Boris Asafiev (29 July 1884-1949) composed more than 150 works, including 28 ballets and 11 operas. He's remembered as the doyen of Soviet musicology, and a critic who went under the name of Igor Glebov. Prokofiev's 1st Symphony and Myaskovsky's 3rd were dedicated to Asafiev.
